Latest Crysis Mod Brings Photorealism To A Whole New Extent – Video

The latest version of the Extreme Mod for the original PC-exclusive outing of the sci-fi shooter, Crysis, has just blown our minds. And let me tell you something – a YouTube Video will never do it justice; unless you actually play it by yourself with silky smooth 60FPS and native 1080p resolution.

And hey, it’s not like what console users have always assumed that PC gaming is expensive and what not – this level of graphics was actually achieved with a $280 Nvidia GPU – GTX 560Ti (available currently for about $174 in some online stores).

Still, the video will show you somehow what modern PC hardware is capable of. Enjoy!

Looks great. Sure it would look a whole lot better if it weren't for the crappy 360p video.

wow consoles are far behind

There must surely be better quality footage than this?! You can see the graphics are drool worthy but the video quality is, for a want of a better phrase, like a wank compared to a shag.

I cant wait for the day that we can have in-game footage look like this. I hope the first game that they make is hunting or survival game where stealth and knowledge of survival is key.

The footage is impressive but I wonder how it would handle if it had a horde of animals running in the background while a forest fire was quickly approaching and some firefighter were trying to put it out.

Really speaking, if some seemingly random people can make graphics like this in the form of mods then all $40 PC games should atleast look as good as this, if not better.

We are comparing a studio full of professional developers and a small group of enthusiasts at the end of the day.

It would be so nice if those enthusiast's could work for these developers because games would look so much better than what they give us at launch. Even if there are only a small amount of PCs that can run the game at high frame rates at launch, plenty of PCs will be powerful to run it properly in as little as two years later, if not less.

After all, hardware is getting more powerful very quickly and the prices of top spec hardware falls pretty rapidly. Todays $2000 PC is next years $700 PC, and in two years a $450 PC.

People are raging about Rage, but lets be honest. Two years after that is released some dude in a basement is going to make it look twice as good! So why on earth didn't the studio do that in the first place with a much larger team in a fraction of the time?!

We don't care if there so few PCs that can run it at max settings @ 60FPS or higher, we want the games to be somewhat graphically future proof... we want the $40 product to look like a free mod! Rage will never look as good as this at release, Skyrim will never look as good as this at release... why is it always the normal people who have to make this sort of thing possible?!

Well done to the creators of this mod, it is a work of art and had you been on the Dev team and had to the resources provided to get this done much quicker the game would have made super huge headlines in the gaming world and likely beyond.

I know cry engine 3 is like an upgraded engine but cry engine 2 seems to be more amazing!

I completely 100% agree with you. But gaming is actually going the opposite route. With more and more studios locking up modding tools to sell DLC. These kinds of articles will become relics of the past.

What's sad is I can guarantee that a majority of devs started out their days modding pc games in their own way. I know some Infinity Ward dev's started out making cs maps, Kaos started out making the desert combat mod for 1942.

cs, team fortress, l4d, portal they all started out as mods but thankfully Valve still supports their games with mod tools.

Too bad I didnt record it in 1080p, you would have been blown away, you know what I mean, man?

NukaCola2836d ago

You can't really bring me to a new reality with only 360p footage, but maybe it's my computer. Anyway, it looks pretty good. I really am excited to see what next gen performance will be.

This is not "latest" this is just the extreme immersive mod and the photoreal map is much better than this.
