One-console future? That could work

A one-console future could work. Somewhat. With a slight bit of change.

BitbyDeath5063d ago

Not even Bob the Builder would touch that one.

Looks like Batman's utility belt, except Joker spat phlegm on it.

Getowned5061d ago

it looks like rotten green jellow :D..lol that thing would look stupid on my tv stand.

No competition = death of the console market.

buttclown5062d ago

Not mentioning the competition, I would love to see the person who thinks Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft could all work together on the same console and still do what each of them wants to

TyrionL5061d ago

I think they could take the competition to the games. Each focus on trying to make the best and most innovative game. I think it could work, but defiantly not with a fanboy mentality.

Apotheosize5062d ago

You mean a unified open platform? Hmm I wonder if we have something like that today...

I've been saying for a while that Microsoft could make a future Xbox a PC. It would just be a PC in a living room friendly case. Give windows 8 a "gaming" mode that shuts down all the superfluous services so as to free up as much resources as possible for gaming.

But it's not just Microsoft, Sony could go the same way, but they would have to buy valve first. With Steam under their control and their awesome group of studios they could be the major player in PC gaming. Again the playstation would be a PC in a nice case for the living room.

"Sony could go the same way, but they would have to buy valve first. With Steam under their control and their awesome group of studios they could be the major player in PC gaming."

What is this blasphemy!!! you stay the hell away from steam..

kneon5061d ago

It's just business. I know Valve have said in the past that they are not for sale, but they also said they didn't like the PS3, and look how that's turned around.

Stranger things have happened.

limewax5061d ago

If Valve had any intention to sell out to Sony we would have seen at least one other Valve game for sale over the PS3 steamworks overlay. But its just not happening.

The whole idea of having a PC in a nice case for the living room is readily available, Its called buying a PC with a nice case. Then putting it in the living room. Why would Sony or MS start trying to offer something that's already offered?

Getowned5061d ago (Edited 5061d ago )

what it really sounds like is you want a PC hooked up to a TV and that's possible even now,you could easily hook up a gaming computer to you're 50" TV and get a wireless keyboard and mouse or 360 controler along with a wireless internet adapter..that future xbox Pc idea of yours already is a real thing called a PC and it dose'nt sound like you do much pc gaming or you would know this and you would know thar Steam is better then both PSN and XBL you would'nt believe the sales and all the games Steam is not a small community.i have a PC,PS3,satellite and a Wii all hooked up to my 42" HD TV an my gaming PC is on a computer desk were i want it.Also as limewax said you can buy some really nice PC cases just look at some on Newegg.com

kneon5061d ago

I already have an i7 930 with a 5850 hooked up to my main TV, and it's not even the most powerful PC in the house. And yet it rarely get's used for gaming. And I'm not new to PC gaming, I've been PC gaming since the Apple ][ and am old enough to remember not only the Atari 2600 but also Atari Pong, Coleco Telstar and the Magnavox Odyssey. And yes Steam is superior, that's why it makes sense for Sony to buy it, there would be no point if it sucked.

And you've misunderstood, I never said I wanted either company to do this, only that it is a possible strategy that I'm sure both have considered, and may very well have rejected. For both companies it would greatly reduce hardware development costs and likely improve reliability, increase the size of the market etc. There are lots of pluses, but the trick is how to move to this model and still maintain or grow revenue.

The score for the first Plants Vs Zombies is such great, iconic music that it has a timeless quality. Not quite the level of Minecraft, but wonderful in its own right.
