Tetsuya Nomura recently revealed in an interview that he has been having trouble drawing new players into the Kingdom Hearts series. What plan does he have set in motion to correct this?
Square Enix has released an update that fixes Kingdom Hearts compatibility issues on the ASUS ROG Ally, and users confirm it's working.
Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:
"When it comes to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, fans have had a variety of ways to play it throughout its incredibly long length. They could have followed it from 2002’s original release and subsequent questionably canon releases on handheld devices only to return to the core game again with Kingdom Hearts II to find out that yes, they were canon. Then in that wait until the third game the mixture of titles along the way and other numerous platforms would make following Kingdom Hearts‘ story a challenge even for the most eager fan. Square Enix made up for this prior to Kingdom Hearts III’s release by bringing together an HD pack collecting the game’s together in an easier to digest package for fans and releasing them on consoles only for PC fans to be left in the dark. That is of course until all of the games arrived on PC, but not in a way that many had hoped. See, PC users can be a fickle bunch and when the Kingdom Hearts collection arrived on PC exclusively through Epic Games, it may as well not exist. Now, three years after the fact, these same PC players can now enjoy the exact same games on Steam with a bit of extra support including Steam Deck compatibility with Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece. The question is, do all of these games still hold up on their Steam PC ports?"
Far from a 9, Square have left these games a janky mess since their epic release. Even now they have not said anything about fixing some of the problems that many steam reviews mention. You gotta download the re:fined mod to fix what square refuses to do.
Console Creatures writes, "Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece is a hail mary for Kingdom Hearts fans who held out for a Steam launch."
Oh shush. You haven't made a proper KH title since 2005. Maybe if you did release a legit KH3 on home consoles, you could get new players into it.
Though Birth by Sleep was awesome in its own right, and necessary in the whole Kingdom Hearts mythos, it was repetitive (especially in the Collisseum) and the story though understandable if people played through KH1 and KHII, for the newcomers it would be uneccessary and confusing.
KHI and KHII will be sufficient remastered for new people and fans alike to get their palates wet until KHIII is finally made
This is the problem with most developers today, they try and make amazing successful franchises more accessible to a "bigger" audience when really theres already enough loyal fans for the game. They should be put first.
How many games have been "dumb" down because the developers want to reach out to a new audience. It's very rare these days when you get developers that manage to make a sequel to a game which, not only, brings in new players, but also keeps the current loyal fans happy
I really hope Kingdom of Hearts 3 dosen't end up being dumbed down because we've been waiting for a main KH title for years now. Think of your current fanbase Nomura, look what happened to Dragon Age 2, do you really want that to happen with KH3
hes killing the franchise with all these in betweens, and prequels.
The best thing they could do to get new players into the Kingdom Hearts series is to release a HD remake of Kingdom Heart 1 & 2 and Chain of Memories, and if they can fit Birth by Sleep and 385/2 Days on the disk as well it wouldn't hurt.
