IGN - Battlefield VS. Call of Duty: By the Numbers

IGN - Battlefield and Call of Duty – the biggest, bloodiest shooters on the market - are constantly competing with each other over hardcore shooting fans' love, dedication and money. But for two franchises that launched within a year apart back in the early 2000's, their paths to current stardom differ wildly. As we prepare for Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 to go head to head this fall, let's take a look at the hard stats that got both of these juggernauts to where they are today.

They forgot Battlefield Vietnam for Bad Company 2 DLC

-Mezzo-5062d ago

Nice catch, It's weird that they missed such a high profile, well received DLC.

evrfighter5062d ago (Edited 5062d ago )

they also forgot secret weapons of ww2, and road to rome.

and Special Forces not Euro Forces was bf2's main expansion pack.

euro force (not forces) and armored fury were just booster packs.

IGN just went and showed that they are now employing incompetent writers. HHG you gettin this?

god look at all those activision dev's tasked with pumping out maps. So much for having a dream of making video games.

BiggCMan5062d ago

How is that by the way? I've heard it was fantastic, though I haven't done much research on it. Is it like a huge amount of maps and Vietnam era weapons and stuff? Is it worth the cost?

BattleAxe5062d ago

Its ok, but the camping is out of control since theres alot of vegitation and trees to hide in and around.

da_2pacalypse5062d ago

It's quite good in my opinion. Each map has it's own type of game (whether close quarter, long rage, or vehicle combat) But it's nice to play vietnam every once in a while to get away from all the scopes. Everything is iron sights except for the 3 sniper rifles. It's nice to play every once in a while in my opinion.

RaptorGTA5062d ago

I had fun with it tho I was dissapointed with each map only having 3 bases for rush mode. I don't feel the maps were as well made as the bc2 maps. But that's my opinion. I still enjoyed it and play it once and awhile.

It's by far the best use of $15 for DLC, IMO. The above comments sound like they thought it was average, I really think it was exceptional. Everything from maps, to weapons, to pacing is varied very well. Nothing is left untouched or forgotten.

The work put into it is amazing. The setting and lush vegetation is what I absolutely adore.

What I really love are the maps. There are 4-5 and they are all very distinct from each other, lush in vegetation. I enjoy those kinds of maps over the urban ones in most shooters. The variety is touched upon in all bases: long range, CQC, and the use of vehicles, everything from boats, to milk trucks, to tanks. Simply driving through the maps is enjoyable and the vehicle warfare is varied perfectly. That's what I love most: Just being in the game. Just seeing the variety of action happening around you and the 'Nam setting is worth the price

It is much more difficult to see enemies in the setting at first, but now I have an eagle eye. They tend to blend in more, but you'll adapt

No negative comments about BFBC2 vietnam here. Great DLC for $15

The should add a section of "Number Of Free DLC Released" to see how that goes.

Shackdaddy8365062d ago (Edited 5062d ago )

They didn't show BF2:MC also.

Plus they didn't include all the games for CoD like CoD:Finest Hour, CoD:Big Red One, CoD:Roads to Victory, CoD:WaW:Final Fronts, CoD:Modern Warfare: Mobolized, and CoD:WaW: Zombies 1&2 for the ios.

They just picked the successful CoD games...

SixZeroFour5062d ago

they added road to victory, mobolized and zombies 1&2 in the "number of mobile versions reeleased" section

Shackdaddy8365062d ago

I see now. They are still missing a couple of failed games though...

Hufandpuf5062d ago

they only put MAIN games in. BFMC was a BF2 port to consoles.

RyuCloudStrife5061d ago

apparently you need to take a second look at the list

This war on MW3 vs BF3 is as worse then 360 vs PS3.
All it is is both sides trying to justify why they are buying one game over the other...

CrimsonEngage5062d ago

I can't understand why people still give IGN clicks if they hate IGN. Don't go there. It's obvious they are biased assholes.

Dart895062d ago

Flame war incoming.I'll stay out of this one :D.

Battlefield 3 Cut Missions From Campaign Detailed by Former DICE Dev

Battlefield 3's former Lead Designer has revealed that there were two cut missions from the main campaign

XiNatsuDragnel157d ago

I wish someone can get those EA game leaks to see all the cut content ngl

anast157d ago

Get rid of campaigns, move the game to mobile, and try to compete with warzone. They would save time and money.

Johnh5223157d ago (Edited 157d ago )

Bf4 was fun hope the new bf is just as good.

Modern Warfare 3 flooded with cheaters after arrival on Xbox Game Pass

Players are using hacks to gain an advantage in the game, such as aimbots and wall hacks. The first gives a player superhuman aiming abilities, while a wall hack lets you see through walls to gauge where other players are.

“These hacks are typically used by PC players, but those playing on PC via Xbox Game Pass are identified as Xbox players in multiplayer lobbies.”

This is pretty dumb to say the least.

Cacabunga318d ago

All about them headshots for Xbox

badz149318d ago

Gotta pump those numbers up

blackblades318d ago

That's a WTF, they suppose to be labeled as pc users even if its on PC game pass. They mess that up big time.

XiNatsuDragnel319d ago

Oh bad this will be entertaining to watch

ZycoFox318d ago

If AI keeps getting better (and it will) it's just a matter of time before there's more sophisticated cheats even for consoles, and they wouldn't even need to be running on it, I have little doubt about that.

lelo2play318d ago

Don't Gamepass online games have anti-cheat systems?
If not, that's pretty dumb. Microsoft need to fix that asap.

Rynxie318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

They won't ever fix this problem, unless they (developers, publishers, Sony and MS) go after the cheat providers directly. You no longer need to hack consoles to use hacks. During the ps360 days, they were going after cheat devices, but it was a cat and mouse game. These cheating methods were around during those days, it's nothing new, but they kept it under control. Since the PS4/Xbox one generation, they stopped going after these cheating devices and it became widespread. Which I find odd, since they started charging for online play (PS4).

StormSnooper318d ago (Edited 318d ago )

Possibly, this is because the companies were going after cheats because the same cheats were being used to pirate the games, whereas today, the companies use online verification to prevent piracy, thus eliminating the need to go after people who cheat only to gain an advantage in the game. As long as the cheater remains below the radar, and does not completely break the game, the companies look the other way as their wallets are not threatened by it. (that is my completely Uneducated opinion on the matter)

pwnmaster3000318d ago

I mean, COD games was always filled with hackers, nothing new. I can’t blame MS on this. Activision had years to try and fix this. Might take MS some time to make some change.

Rude-ro318d ago

It all depends…
Microsoft’s guidance on how to handle gamepass on pc and their love to force crossplay with pc seems like a them issue.
And they own activision, so it is still a them issue.

StormSnooper318d ago

lol well that sucks.

Is there a reason this happened upon arrival on xbox?
