Atari 2600 inducted into National Toy Hall of Fame

It was announced today that among the twelve toys nominated, the Atari 2600 was one of three to be inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame at the Strong National Museum of Play.

The museum's curator, John Paul Dyson, notes that Atari's system paved the way for today's gaming consoles, and "mesmerized a generaion with games such as Space Invaders, Pac Man, and Frogger." You don't say.

Without Atari gaming wouldn't be what it is today. They were the ones that started it all. I am glad to see them get some recognition.

It is easy to forget the great companies that were involved in the pioneering of the games industry. Back them Microsoft and Sony weren't even a blip on the gaming radar.

It's about time, now if the original game boy, and NES aren't there they should be added. Those three consoles shaped gaming today!

remember when my joysticks gave out, damn, they were a headache to fix! my favorite games were pacman, space invaders & asteroids! I didn't have a paddle tho.
