Chris Buffa (Modojo): If you can't wait to purchase a PlayStation Vita, Sony's decision to release the system in Japan by the end of 2011 and the U.S. and Europe in 2012 (date unknown) is probably a bit disheartening.
I think it was a good idea. This way, when it launches, there will be games for it worth buying....unlike the 3DS launch.
Viva La Vita baby!
I think it's best to launch the PS Vita with multiple game options, than to launch with little to no games. It also gives us more money and time to spend on some pretty great games coming out later this year.
agreed. the more options the better for all of us. now I am hopeful that this gives devs the time needed to get patches made for the old psp games, in particular Socom/Resistance or any other game that will benefit from the addition of the extra stick. That will breathe a whole new life into some of those games, as I passed them up due to not having a 2nd stick also allowing them to get more of those games up on the store in digital format to prepare for the Vita release.
releasing an incomplete handheld system (no browser, etc) before it's games are ready to go, that's a costly mistake. Ask Nintendo.
very sad to hear this as I was really hoping for a 2011 release, but I can be patient. Hopefully this means we get more games at launch. As pumped as I am for Uncharted, I'm still waiting to hear some news on some JRPG games.
Dragons Crown, from the makers of Odin Sphere. you can also play any PSP game upscale on the PSV
Yeah remember PSP games will be compatible day one. Apart from all of the great titles announced thus far I REALLY hope Valkyria Chronicles 3 gets localized for the us PSN.
I see the delay going both ways just because if they wait to long to launch it, the momentum and hype that it has will slowly fade away...but I agree witj everyone else that the game library has to be there in order for It to succeed in the handheld market...Just hopeits here during Jan-march because i really can't wait to have my hands on it.
this is very interesting ...let's just see how it all turns out
I find the launch of the vita in the US/EU good to hear. With all the games coming out from September to the end of November, I don't don't see room to pick the vita up. I feel sorry for Japan, since they don't really have any titles coming to the vita, unless we don't know what Japanese launch titles. While Christmas will look grim for most, the summer will be jam pack with Vita games and that is what all gamers want when it comes to the summer drought.
I don't get it. "Pushes into 2012"? Who said it would hit EU/NA in 2011 in the first place? It was like all those who kept claiming "GT5 delayed again!" when there was never a official ship date to start with - only speculation. And when they delayed Gears 2 or Halo 3 or pushed back Halo reach etc, etc - no one said boo. I'll be happy if Vita launches when it's ready. I don't think that's too much to ask. If it's ready in Japan first and NA/EU later - so be it.
i have a question because "i don't get it" darkride, can you not make a post without mentioning the competition??? gosh quit crying about everyone else in all of your posts for ONCE.
Why are these articles croppibg up? Didn't we already know this? Besides it will help the VITA sidd step the mistake Nintendo made by launching the 3DS with weak games. We will have a strong line up for it.
Yes we did know this already but some people apparently missed this bit of information. Can't believe people thought the PSV was releasing this fall in regions other than Japan.
They made it seem like this was new news.
Because the majority of the gaming press don't know what they are talking about and don't even bother to check facts...
Means my wallet can cool off and breathe
now they can support there first party games better this fall, and maybe get some more games for the Vita on launch (and more units to sell so shortages don't happen).
is this author serious "it's time for Japanese companies to stop favoring Japan. It's such a small country when taking into account the global industry" this article is a joke it's a good thing to step back get the kinks out of first gen then launch world wide
too bad they are going to miss Christmas
yeah, I was hoping for a Christmas release, but I can wait. I already pre ordered so no problem..But since the PSPVita is coming in 2012, unfortunately expect alot more of these articles to come...
Nintendo recently lowered their prices. Now Sony gave them more time to release even more first party that gives people reason to actually buy a 3DS.
Why is this guy looking at the short term only? And did he forgot Japan was hit by a tsunami earlier this year? That alone set back the whole Japan. Also, most of the games are still in development. True, that development for the PSV is much easier than PS3 but time is still needed. Smartphones are a NEED, they're not a dedicated gaming handheld. It's used for call & text, gaming is secondary. It will sell whether the PSV launches right now or later.
these idiots don't deserve to be called journalists. Sony did not ''push vita in to 2012'' jack himself said it would only come in one country this year. God do these guys not bother with facts any more ?
I think is is bs, I haven't heard anything from Sony about pushing to 2012. Plus the line up of games is pretty awesome, I got three of them preorder.
Sony didn't push it to 2012, Jack Tretton said right from the get-go that the PSV would release by the end of 2011 in Japan and 2012 in the rest of the regions. Apparently not very many people/"journalists" paid attention to Sony's E3 conference.
uhm... It's not a mistake... they will need to make sure that the device works 100% and it gives them time to think about their strategy on how to sale it... so no it's not a mistake >_>
We already knew this. This is not news. It was only suppose to be released in one country this year and the rest to follow in 2012
i totally agree y is it always japan 1st? i know its where vita is born but the problem is they did this and did exactly the same with the playstation 3 no wonder we get pissed off
Cant wait to see the spin doctors of N4G to start telling us how brilliant a strategy this is by Sony. Isn't it obvious that Sony is a Japanese company? they cater to the East and that's the reason why the American or EU fans of the PS3 are into that weird Japanamation crap. Way to miss the busiest season of the year and most likely end up going against the Wii U and probably at around the same price... Next gen console or handheld? Not exactly a touch choice.
Oh, lets compare a console to a handheld. Huh durrrr....You suck at trolling.
Oh no, don't you remember all the "news items" saying that a Vita and PS3 could do everything the Wii-U can do?
What are you babbling about exactly? Since when are consoles competing with handhelds. Then by your logic why should you buy a 3DS then if the Wii U is right around the corner. If you want to start comparing handhelds to consoles then the 3DS is garbage compared to a 360 or PS3.BTW you still call it Japanimation? What time period are you from?
@paloeomerus Yes, I remember those. I don't think everyone that is buying the Vita is doing so for a Wii-U experience, I am not thats for sure.
It's better to launch when ready, instead of rushing your launch.
I agree with you on that. Microsoft rushed the 360 and the result was a ton of dead consoles. Nintendo rushed the 3DS and the result was a poor library of games at launch. Which is why i approve what Sony is doing. Because when the Vita comes out it will have a good selection of games. Also the disasters in japan had a devestating effect on their factorys so that factors in as well.
Fucking retards at Modojo , don't they realize that Sony was affected by the Jap tsunami/earth quake disaster. That will take time to recover from. Sony doesn't just make consoles. Considering the timing of the Jap disaster, I think Sony's will have done a remarkable job if they hit an all region Vita launch within 2011 fiscal year(which ends 2012).
How can people possibly discount Japan so much? After all, they are the sole reason ( that and Capcom's monster hunter) the PSP beat the 3DS in sales recently. WTF is wrong with people, I am an American but at least I can recognize we are not the only viable market. The Vita is going to be an atomic bomb sales wise in Japan, that region loves sexy technology which is exactly what the Vita is. Sure sales wise in the US it may take a small hit, but worldwide the Vita will really be something to contend with. Also, I am sick of all the smartphone talk and how it will impact the Vita. No it won't, at least not as much as people are stating. The Vita was made to work with smaller indie developers and the big boys, it will do it all and way better than a touch screen only screen can do. I can't wait for all these opinion pieces to be proved wrong.
Vita is a handheld, and Japan is definately the most important handheld market. :-/
seems crazy to let a 170 dollar 3DS have Christmas by itself. I have a 3ds and will probably get a PSV at launch if they announce some JRPGs and KILLZONE. If not, Ill wait because LBP is not my taste.
Cambridge Studios is making Killzone for the Vita. :)
