Nintendo’s Problem Isn’t Hardware—They Stopped Making Killer Games

Nintendo's biggest problem isn't hardware—it's games. The proper noun that should send Nintendo watchers the most chills isn't Apple—it's Wii Fit.

Apple is merely the topic of a question, the one about who Nintendo is competing with. The other is an answer—possibly the missing answer—about what Nintendo needs to be a confident giant again rather than a stumbling one.

Phenomenal article. I'm surprised, Kotaku.

Nintendo is too obsessed with 'gimmicks'. Note that the Wii and the DS found their greatest success when Nintendo focused on solid game experiences instead of goofy game gimmicks.

I grew out of Nintendo ever since Super Nintendo I just got older their games weren't appealing to me I wanted more mature games

They have the games but they are just not out yet.

Knushwood Butt2634d ago

Yeah, they have the best vapourware!

if they came out with new ip that would be really great nintendo seems like they have a lot of talent so why not ditch mario and legend of zelda for something new or at least give them a totally different story.

Ditching them is a terrible idea, though. It's like Halo. Those who thought that the Halo series would be a trilogy kind of had a point. But would the developers ever think of limiting the series to a certain number of games? Hell no, because they had created a well known brand. Brands are a good thing. I quite like my Element flannels.

Donkey Kong Country Returns?
Pokemon B&W?
All the upcoming 3DS games?

Thats just a few games

Zelda been around a long time and each game is a new experience so you can hardly call it milked. None of them are the same, all of them have different stuff that make them unique in there own way.

Great article, I couldn't agree more. Let's hope that the Wii U brings back the old Nintendo and with it a large high quality catalog of must have titles.
