Euclideon have recently reappeared after a years absence since it announced it's new tech capable of providing a potentially unlimited amount of detail.
Euclideon has released a new video, showing off a new tech that is being supported in its 'Unlimited Detail' engine and is called Solidscan.
Looks like it'd be cool for VR demos and stuff. Too bad it seems to be limited to static scenes with no dynamics or animation for now.
Yikes, that looks insanely good. Guess we'll see how it translates to real-world games.
I used to be so impressed when these guys first showed. I was hoping they'd be the next huge thing. Glad they still exist.
Euclideon has broken its silence and released a new video, claiming that its engine will revolutionize video-game graphics, and that two games are currently under development.
THEY'RE BACK!
Also, that whole "surprise" didn't surprise me. I could tell right away those were video game graphics because I'm not blind
Minute 1:25, there is a floatin cross. Before that, yes, I was thinking it was real life video with some tiny frame rates due to the internet.
I'd like to see this without horrible youtube compression because at the end of the video, the outdoor "nature" scenes were actually quite impressive.
Of course the BS about us not being able to tell the difference was just that, BS. I think this technology does have potential though, especially if it allows game developers to greatly cut back on content creation from scratch.
I have no idea why this is covered in gaming sites. Euclideon make visualisation software for laser-scanning. Their clients are governments, mapping companies, construction companies.
Here's a video of what they actually do - https://www.youtube.com/wat...
The reason it's unsuitable for games is that it doesn't handle lighting or animation.
DSOGaming writes: "It's been almost a year since our last look on the Euclideon 'Unlimited Detail' engine. Unfortunately, the team has not come up with a game yet, however it has released a new tech video for this particular engine."
Almost a year my ass. Its been well over a year and months after that.
This presentation has very little attention to gaming at all. Maybe one day it could though.
Very impressive. I remember them moving away from gaming into other areas, and they seem to have found their spot... I don't expect them to bring much to Gaming industry tho.
I was rather impressed with the idea. Curious to see how this is utilized in the coming years. Wondering who the first to jump on ship will be?
How many duplicates are we going to see of this story?!
