Format war fanboys shut down AVS Forum

Following the $99 HD DVD player sale at Wal-Mart and Best Buy (among others,) rampant flame wars between Blu-ray and HD DVD fanboys turned nasty into personal attacks and physical threats in the AVS forum - probably the largest online forum for audio/visual discussion. Which led AVS moderators to completely shut down the HD DVD and Blu-ray forums until the weekend.

That sh*t is crazy HD-DVD can't have good news withhout rabid flamers bashing, Blu-ray news on the other hand is largly ignored by non BD supporters.

For the most part the news post has to envolve HD-DVD for people to be intrested in Bur-ray threads.

The original forum might have been about HDDVD but the point of the post the story linked to was to point out the stupidity of fanboys from both camps, who only whine and only see there own side of things, never considering their "enemies" viewpoint.

Think of me what you like but at least I listen to others point of view even if I dont agree with it, thats why I dont have anyone on my ignore list, even the more annoying of you, and you know who you are.

If I jumped on POG a little quickly its because I had just read the whole story and was thinking how ridiculous some of us are and then the first response I read was exactly the sort of tripe that shut down their forum.

And how you guys can say BR supporters shouldn't be in a HDDVD forum is beyond me. Should I link you back to this thread the next time I see you trolling a PS3 story that you have no business being in?

That's fine if you don't agree with one format and enter the forum to express your thoughts and maybe enter in a heated debate. But being hostile is not acceptable. And that's what these bluray fanboys did. Just like what you did with POG. It's time to grow up Bathyj.

I rarely see theMart, POG, Bloodmask, and the rest of the 360 owners get hostile and childish. But you see it very often from the sony fanboys. Having a heated debate is one thing...but getting personal is another.

One can show positive support for one's console and still be respectful of others and their choices. The problem with this site and many others is when people twist it all into a win/lose situation...the pride and ego of a "winner". Fragile little egos always trying to assert themselves as a "superior" human being because I chose brand X and it is superior....[insert multiple paragraphs, links, and twisted facts to thus prove (in their world) they are the superior human being. Sociologically...most of them are just damaged goods and clueless as to what life is all about.

MS employees under Amir have actually threatened people on the forums. Also you should note Amir was kicked out of the HD DVD group by upper Management at Microsoft but still regularly bashes blu-ray. MS employees made major mistakes with the coordinated attacks on blu-ray insiders, they PM'd the wrong people. Seriously how stupid can you be, pretty f'n stupid MS you've exceeded all expectations of how dirty you can be. Add one more suit to the very long list.

Obviously you don't visit the forum all that often, or you just don't get much out of it. It's their insiders thread - that's the only thread in which Amir posts practically. He and a few HD-DVD "insiders" (read, professionals)as well as BR insiders (Paidgeek, TalkStr8t) give their thoughts/insights into questions posed by readers. It's basically just a bunch of talking heads from both camps, but interesting none the less.

argue about formats. You can sort of understand (only a tiny tiny bit) console fanboys, i mean its pathetic but people have always argued about what the best console is or which one has the best games, even back in the megadrive/SNES days. But i mean come on these are f**king format discs, who really gives a s**t anyway. If people are so worried about which one's gonna be the successor to the DVD and which one isn't don't buy either! I don't care which format wins, I just want this war to be over asap so I know which is safe to go with when I have to get a next generation format disc writer for business. What really kills me is the fact that a single-layer blank disc from either format is at least $24.99 for one freakin disc!! They oughta be $2.50 per disc or at least somewhere around there, they don't cost that much to make, it's rediculous!! Even printable DVD+R DL's are way overpriced- roughly $1.60 per disc, and they don't even hold completely double the amount of a single layer disc, which costs roughly 25cents per disc, DL' should only be 40cents. All writable media above the level of DVD R's are severely overpriced. This is a problem for me and so many other indi-film makers.

Blu Ray will never loose because of the studio backing and the PS3. It is just up to HD-DVD to justify a second player in the HD format war. And with the 51GB cap at the moment - and BR going 100GB and 200GB, well - it is not difficult to predict that HD-DVD can do nothing else but carve a small niche market for itself for survival. It will never dominate.

Over here there is not even a HD-DVD player or title in any store that I could see. But BR is available everywhere - usually with PS3 being the player promoted with it.

Hah ha ha..., a US$99 HD-DVD player shuts down a website. All probably because of a lot of disgruntled/conned/duped/pathe tic buyers who bought those expensive Blu-Ray's for sure.
Never expecting such a big downturn in price for this said HD player, felt betrayed that this bargain player can beat and is comparable to their expensive ones.

Also the thing that really bugs these stupid tech-geek jerk-offs is that there
really is no difference between this two formats ( audio and visuals ).
