.
Unreal lighting has always been on the weak side of things as it wasn't a big feature in the games...not anymore.

I think the biggest advertisement for Epic and Unreal 3 is Gears 3 with all the great updated features including the lighting, smoke and motion blur effects.

@John...oh, you mean like Mass Effect or Mirrors edge...0_o...A games art direction is chosen to convey a feeling or evoke emotion. I agree, starring at a brown ( KZ 2 ) or gray ( Gears 1 ) screen can be hard on the eyes but it's a part of the art direction NOT a fault in the game engine tho at times, this is an attempt to save on resources better used elsewhere. The point is the developer ultimately chooses his own path.

Let's just hope that this upgrade will finally put an end to that bloody brown-ish post-process effect that plagues every damn Unreal 3 game

Edit: @Inside_Out: Mirror's Edge doesn't have the brown-ish filter (in fact, Mirror's Edge looks great :D). This post-process effect is basically a color grading filter that gives a brown-ish look to the game. Gears, Hunted, Batman and a bunch of other Unreal 3 games have it. With a better lighting system we might see its death as that particular filter is mostly used to hide imperfections. It's like the orange-ish filter that Codemasters uses in all their games.

To bad the engine wont fully be used for maybe 3 years shame..

It uses 3 gtx580 and doesn't even look photoreal and crysis on max on my gtx 260 looks close to photo real. Epic aren't as good as they claim they are.

We also discuss which older games served as inspiration, and might just have given away our respective ages as we discuss games from 3 decades ago.
