Sony is all about exclusives going forward and I am luvin' it

DaTruth2657d ago (Edited 2657d ago )

They are not just about exclusives, they are investing in new games! Not buying exclusives that would have already been made by some big corporation for all platforms, for the purposes of denying the game to people who don't own their particular console.

Buy my console or I will take your favourite franchises and DLC away from you!

Buy my console, and I will add great games to the big multiplatform franchises you've always loved!

I was at a game developer conference in Vancouver over a month ago and there was a panel that had a bank, rep from Sony, some government export guys and the guy who headed up Hoard (great game).

If Sony likes your pitch and you'll willing to go exclusive, you still get to keep control of your IP and Sony will fund the entire project - as long as you finish it. With that guarantee from Sony you can go to the banks to fund the project and when you're done, Sony gives you the money to pay off the bank loan.

It's an excellent program for indies. It's nice to see Sony supporting developers like this.

but Mr. Tretton said:

"We don't buy exclusivity. We don't fund development. We don't, for lack of a better term, bribe somebody to only do a game on our platform."

"We earn it by saying, 'You can build a better game on our platform. If you focus your development on our platform, you will ultimately be more successful."

but now it's ok. weird.

Am I the only person who thinks most of these Indie games are complete shite? As in I can google 'Flash Games' and find the same crap on sites like but for free.

Ya gotta play some more of em, you're missing out

Spenok2657d ago

He most definitly is. Yeah their not all great. But there are some gems in there to be sure.

Calm Down Sunshine2657d ago

You're not alone. The majority of the games are a waste of time.

Godmars2902657d ago

Doesn't the same apply to XBLI titles?

At least Sony's spreading out the money and not spending twice the amount for one timed exclusive.

Pintheshadows2657d ago

Sony is supporting indie developers Zippy. That is really important. 10 years down the line, given this opportunity they could be making fully fledged games.

KILLERAPP2657d ago

Am really looking forward to the heist looks awesome...

Thoreau2657d ago

take those millions and make me a new non-psn game.

doctorstrange2657d ago

Cause Sony definitely aren't making enough retail games...

Thoreau2657d ago

i buy psn games

castle crashers, final fight, echochrome, deadnation(before the free give away), castlevania sotn, it is just that psn games or xbl games don't have staying power for me.....

Ares842657d ago

I wish they invested in retail games instead. PSN games keep me busy for an hour or two after that they just get boring.

But this is just my opinion.

BigWoopMagazine2657d ago

So, Killzone 3, Twisted Metal, Uncharted 3, SOCOM 4, MotorStorm Apocalypse, LittleBigPlanet 2, Resistance 3, Infamous 2, Gran Turismo 5, StarHawk, and The Last Guardian aren't enough? I'm sure I missed some too... but yeah, I think they're well invested in full retail games...

Ares842657d ago

I'm not saying they don't have any retail exclusives. But I just can't get enough :D

What is missing form the list? An RPG, a platformer, a fighter and I'm sure there is more.

So there is room to invest.

Rynx2657d ago

SONY does need an exclusive fighting game that's for sure. There's a market for them and hell even EVO is using only PS3's. I was disappointed when Tekken went Multiplat, but SONY needs to take advantage and make their own IP in that genre.
