Call of Duty DLC - Is It Really Over-Priced?

MMGN writes: Call of Duty Black Ops developer Treyarch has hit back at criticism of its DLC pricing and rightly so: its DLC for Black Ops has been fantastic thus far. Escalation was a fastastic piece of DLC, although it still feels the grunt of the anti-Call of Duty crowd.

The criticism is almost always forced down the throat of the developer, although anyone with even novice knowledge of the industry would understand that it's actually a game's publisher that sets the price of DLC.

That said, Treyarch hasn't hit out at the pricing set out by Black Ops' publisher Activision, instead justifying the pricing by highlighting the actual quality of the DLC on offer.

BC2 Vietnam was worth $15, it completely changed the era and everything, CoD just sells maps and maybe something for zombies, for the same price...

BakedGoods2657d ago

Killzone 3 map packs are like 6 bucks.

MintBerryCrunch2656d ago

i believe its 2 maps for $4.99, KZ2 had 3 packs each at that price, so 6 maps for $15 basically, very close to what Activision is doing with CoD

the one thing that KZ's map packs do is only divide the community apart since each pack is only 2 maps, at least Activision bundles 5 maps that way the community doesn't get divided

Is CoD dlc overpriced? Yes. An absolute and resounding yes! It wasn't too bad on CoD4 dlc where it only cost $10 for a map pack. But $15 is ridiculous. There's like 3 or 4 map packs for Black Ops so if you buy them all, you're gonna spend around $100+ for that game. That's insane!

It wouldn't be that bad if CoD dlc had some extra single player content to go along with the extra maps.

thorstein2656d ago

And one of those packs was FREE.

HelghastSoldier12656d ago

yes you can get all the maps for 10 bucks, 8 maps for 10 which are bigger then cod maps which only offers 5 maps for 15

HeavenlySnipes2656d ago

The third map pack came with 4 maps for $4.99

The bundle (with 8 maps) was only $9.99

People that only play COD are quite happy to buy the DLC every 3-4 months or whatever it is because it's WHAT THEY LIKE.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. The game comes with a nice assortment of maps at launch. The DLC are for the hardcore that game on COD everyday with their friends and APPRECIATE the extra attention.

I was in McDonald's the other day...two meal deals cost as much as 1 DLC map pack...O_o

the "haters" would stop hating if COD can stop affecting the games that they actually do like. COD and it's fans are destroying gaming. It prompts the industry to over simplify their games and to believe they can get away with ripping people off, and they are because the majority of COD players, who are also unfortunately the majority of gamers nowadays are stupid and don't know any better.

LightofDarkness2656d ago (Edited 2656d ago )

Yes, it is, and I don't care if people are willing to pay for it, because it has repercussions for every other game that succeeds it, despite what all these "greed is good" disciples will say, (and will inevitably arrive in here) using free-market principles as shields for their hilarious, unwavering support of unethical gouging.

fr00ty-wizenhymer2656d ago

The game is overprice itself. I wouldn't even buy the full game for 1200 MS points.

bumnut2656d ago

It is overpriced, but to say its not worth 1200 points is stupid.

fr00ty-wizenhymer2656d ago

No, it's not. Price should not affect quality. There are plenty $1 indie games that are much better than CoD.
