Rise of Nightmares: Can The Kinect Be Mature? (Hooked Gamers)

HG writes: "As an adult gamer I've often found myself wondering if Kinect will ever fully appeal to me. Of course, whilst it's a lot of fun to play around with your friends on games like Dance Central and Kinect Adventures, it just doesn't grip you like a good RPG or FPS where you can sit down and fully immerse yourself into the story of the game. With the help of Sega, this dilemma may soon be over as this fall, Rise of Nightmares will hit the shelves. All that's left to do now is work out whether it's actually good enough to buy, or if the game is just talk and no action."

waving your arms and doing worthless movements isnt mature.

How isn't it mature may I ask? At what age are you not expected to have fun? I really don't like the Wii and have no real interest in purchasing one, but when I play with my 8 year old niece, I have a blast. I am 26 years old, soon to be married, own a home, and have a respectable job. Sine I have fun doing that once in a while does that not make me mature?

We get it, some people don't like motion controls. Yet, to sit here and call people immature because they may enjoy something you don't is really juvenile, and well, immature.

Did you miss the article, JeffGUNZ? This isn't about having a little fun. The writer acknowledges Kinect's random fun. This is about mature gaming possibilities. Waving your arms around and doing gestures is not a mature way of playing games. It just isn't.

I understand the article Biggest, I am clearly just confused when movement became immature? We are on the same level in that I have no interest in doing it, but I still don't think it's immature. That's just simple narrow-mindedness to think that way. That's like someone saying playing any type of video games is immature. It might not be our cup of tea granted, but for others it may be the only way they can enjoy gaming.

For example. My fiancee, who is 28, a well-respected teacher, cheerleading coach, and track coach, has tried to play videogames with me but she finds trouble in handling the controller. See, people from her generation, that didn't stick with gaming are use to the simple D-Pad from NES. That is what she is custom to. Now, I hand her an Xbox 360 controller and she has no idea what to do with all the buttons, nevertheless the dual analogs. When she plays Wii at her Sister's house, she has a blast. She is interested in the Kinect product, but I still think we need to wait a little bit longer until the price is justified with what it can do. Giving her the option to play games and have fun with me in something I enjoy as a recreational activity is great. It doesn't make her immature because that's the way she can experience the excitement.

A problem with a lot of people these days are they immediately bash and trash anything THEY don't like. I think some need to take time to view things from the other perspective before they pass such crude comments.

This coming from a guy who has no interest in Kinect, but respects what it's doing for other potential new gamers.

It's not a case of whether Kinect can be mature.. probably quite easy to turn a lot of the Kinect game ideas into adult themed games. The real question is will mature games sell well on Kinect. I just hope that Microsoft don't start spewing BS linking mature kinect games with core gamers. A mature game doesn't necessarily mean it's a game aimed at core gamers.

TheKayle2659d ago u feel childish when u just walk and do stuff with your real arms? haahah

VampiricDragon2659d ago (Edited 2659d ago )

I feel childish when I do it unnecessarily in games when controllers can do the same and more.

Nothing can be the same as my arms when walking down the street

They need to make a Fist of the North Star game for Kinect, doesn't get more manly than that!

Who said Kinect couldn't be for mature audiences in the first place? People like to use buzz words like "Core" and "Casual" but in all honesty those people only use those words when it suits them.

I think Rise Of Nightmares looks fantastic and as a person in my late 20's I like my Kinect and look forward to many more titles like this one. I am a gamer above all else, quit labeling me people!
