SH: As a kid, going to see a movie based on a video game sounds great. How could it go wrong? Of course, at that age, we're too young to know all the work that goes into making a movie. All we can think about is the combination of two of our favorite things: movies and video games!
But then, the Hollywood machine takes hold of a game, attaches personalities where there were none and turns a button-mashing good time into a mindless 90-minute snoozefest. Think about it, what's the best video game movie you've ever seen? Mortal Kombat or maybe Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time? One of the Resident Evil movies? Tomb Raider? Let's face it, there really haven't been that many quality video game movies. Some are classics, in that, "This is so corny, but I'm loving it" sense and some are just your average big-budget popcorn flicks. They can be done well, but for the most part, video game movies ideas are best left in a wastebasket.
The new Alone in the Dark remake doesn't do anything especially noteworthy, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just... cromulent.
The original Alone in the Dark - hailing all the way back from 1992 - is re-imagined with Unreal Engine 4. The story and puzzle elements are dramatically overhauled, where PS5, Series X and S strive for 60fps gameplay in a decent performance mode. However there are technical rough points to this release which detract from what could be a much better game.
series S performance mode, 800x450p - 1600-900p
so NEVER hits 1080, and goes as low as a ps2.
this consoles dead to me
"Alone in the Dark (2024) squanders a thick atmosphere by playing it safe - a missed opportunity to resurrect a seminal title in the survival horror canon."
- Stuart Cullen, TechStomper
Is anyone surprised? It's looked bad the entire time and only apologists say nice things about it.
I remember in the mortal kombat 2 movie when scorpion kidnaps kitana yells out "suckers"...lol or when johnny cage gets killed at the very beginning.
SF the movie was interesting(not good) they hired the guy from adams' family to play bison lol
SMB bwuhahaha don't even get me start
I like the SMB movie. As a movie it's actually good. People who hate on it will say "it's nothing like the games". That's where your argument falls flat on it's face because it's not Cannon with the games any ways.
Street Fighter was an absolute blinder, I remember when I saw Blanka for the first time. Not laughed so hard in all my life, just some ugly guy painted green pretty much.
Using Kylie for Cammy was an inspired decision though, I think they were just looking for an actress that had an ass to match Cammy's in the game haha. :D
These movies are absolutely the worst they could be. But because of that they will always be remembered. I watched them all when i was younger, and now i kinda wanna watch them all again. Netflix here i come!
