FPS Week: Top 10 FPS Games Of All Time

First Person Shooters have become the industry’s bread and butter genre. Each of the big three have a platform exclusive FPS title. Metroid for Nintendo, Killzone for Sony and of course Halo for Microsoft. To finish off our FPS week we have gone and listed what we feel are the top ten first person shooters of all time. Gameplay, story, and overall fun were all factors. Also, let it be known that it is our opinion and we would love to hear what our readers believe are some of the best FPS titles.

A lot of good games on the list but the order is kind of suspect. Timesplitters 2 as #1 game? C'mon. It was a great game, but better than HalfLife 2? Speaking of which, HL2 is only #5? WTF? Plus, the choice of the Battlefield game was very odd: BF1943? BF2 was way better than that. BF1942 was even better than that.

I'm not Bias towards PC at all I just picked what I believed deserved to be up there. All these top 10 lists are the same people always believe something should be higher or something should be lower but it's the writers opinion and just because I believe Timesplitters 2 is number 1 doesn't mean others have to think it is. Everyone has their own opinion :)

Agent-865102d ago (Edited 5102d ago )

Sorry, I edited the bias part out because that was a little harsh. I apoligize, but I still believe your choice of BF games is odd. I also stand by HalfLife 2 being a superior game to Timesplitters 2.

EDIT: Rob946, I agree that BF1943 was fun and a great value, but it isn't what I would call the best game of the series.

Rob9465102d ago (Edited 5102d ago )

Yeah as I said everyone has their own opinion, I will admit Half Life 2 was amazing but I played Timesplitters 2 4 player split-screen co-op so much back then with a lot of my friends and we always had great fun. It's some of my best memories with games and that's why I put it above. also I will agree that my choice for Battlefield games may be a bit different to what people expect but two of those are my favourite in the series espically BF1943 as it was such a great game for such little money.

Bioshock
Metroid Prime
Half Life

These games are not just shooters, but more like first person explorative adventures.

____

If I had to add a couple shooters to it I would add:

Turok 2 on N64 (I mean the Cerebrial Bore need I say more?)
Jedi Knight II: Outcast (FPS for the majority of it but keeps the FPS controls even during TPS Lightsaber mode, but still an outstanding game.)

"Number 8 Tie Between Battlefield 1943 And BFBC2"

1943 should NOT be on a top 10 FPS of all time list.

Like the guy said! Have you played time Splitters 2? but.... still shouldn't be number 1. But it's one persons opinion and everybody's is different!

Agent-865102d ago

Yes, I had a PS2 and played all the TimeSplitters. That's why I said it was a good game. However, it can't compare to HalfLife 2. I'm sorry, but any list that has TS2 above HL2 is a little whacked in my opinion.

Gray-Fox-Type05102d ago

I agree timesplitters over Half Life 2 = HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH

Gray-Fox-Type05102d ago (Edited 5102d ago )

here is few.

Half life 2
Halo
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
DOOM
Deus Ex
Bioshock
Call Of Duty 4
Metriod Prime

hmm good picks ..oh crap you forget DEUS EX?! OH COME ON!!! that is abit of a fail

thugbob5101d ago

Yeah good list. When it comes to things like this it's best not to be picky about the order. There were other shooters that I felt should be on the list but they were mentioned on the honorable mention so it's all good.

As I said already you may think Half Life is a better game but im sure there's also people besides me who think Timesplitters would be better. All top 10 lists never please everyone because everyone always has different opinions.

AlienBlaster5102d ago

Not a bad list overall even though i would put Half Life 2 higher, but as you said it's your opinion so no problem there. But fix the name in the Half Life 2 part it's not Gordan Freeman its Gordon.

news4geeks5102d ago (Edited 5102d ago )

Great list but poor order and missing the original half life. Goldeneye lucky to make it with its pathetic control scheme.

trainsinrdr5102d ago (Edited 5102d ago )

IMO:

Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Bioshock
Call fo duty classic
Medal of honor frontline
Resistance fall of man
Bad Company 1/2 (just the mp, the sp sucks)

While i appreciate the gesture.... all of these retro classics have been made available everywhere else. I am hoping to see some other Activision properties make their way out of the shackles of the 5th, 6th and 7th gen. Licensing be damned... bring back the Transformers Cybertron games.

P_Bomb37d ago

Love the Cybertron games! TF games have been shit lately. Would love to see that era revisited. I even did the multiplayer!

MrBaskerville37d ago

Is the retro classics for all consoles?
