Battlefield 3: the confirmed maps so far

A list and overview of all the confirmed multiplayer maps for Battlefield 3 so far.

The story is too old to be commented.
DA_SHREDDER2659d ago (Edited 2659d ago )

"Strike at Karkand was a dusty, grim map in Battlefield 2 with low visibility and almost no colors besides khaki. The Battlefield 3 version looks a lot more colorful and lifelike, which will be welcomed in the remake of a classic. "

There's so much fail in that statement but im gonna leave it alone. All I gotta say to you Dice is, if you wanna sell COD numbers? You gotta have COD numbers. 5 maps, one of them being a BF2 map isn't enough to quench the thirst of all the COD addicts in this world. Maybe in your world, and other devs like Guerrilla Games think 5-10 maps at launch for an online is enough. I beg the differ. You guys should have a team totally dedicated to producing multiplayer maps, or go above and beyond what the COD devs have done. Take all the maps from the past and include them as well. You need at least 15-20 maps off the top or people are gonna get burnt out fast. I know its gonna be a good game, but quality/quanity > quality. There is no such thing as too many multiplayer maps at launch.

Sinterfire2659d ago (Edited 2659d ago )

I agree with you. I hate when I buy a MP oriented shooter and it only comes with 6 or 7 maps. I was really disappointed with how many maps BFBC2 and KZ3 had at launch. That's one thing I've always liked about CoD. They always come with 15-20 maps at launch. Wake island will be greatness. I hope BF3 comes with at least 10 maps.

thorstein2659d ago

FYI, from the BF3 Blog:
"Several BF2 maps will return in a DLC called “Back to Karkand”. The maps are: Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island and Sharqi Peninsula."

This is about DLC. We still don't know what the game will ship with.

Sinterfire2659d ago

@ thorstein I know I was just putting my two cents in. As I said I hope BF3 comes with at least 10 maps. I also hope they don't do the whole VIP code thing and release so called map packs that were the same maps just for other modes (excluding the last two map packs)

Thing is that COD 'NEEDS' that many maps to seem like it offers a worthy MP component. COD maps are tiny compared to the size of the ones offered in the Battlefield series.

With COD your regularly in the same space when you play the same map so it can get boring much quicker than a BF map, as they are so much bigger. BF maps open up so many more tactics that the player can adopt whereas COD usual results in the player following the same route over and over again on a particular map - not to even begin mentioning the tactical options, variety and replayability that vehicles bring to the mix in BF.

And another thing - how is that quote "such a fail"? It's an accurate assumption between the BF2 and BF3 iterations of the map.

Lastly, what's going on with "quality/quantity > quality" ? - makes no sense whatsoever.

Face it - your the one which is a fail on so many levels, not this article.

thorstein2659d ago

And all COD maps are the same: either a giant Circle or a Figure 8. Think about it when you play. There is no sense of "this is our territory to lose".

Also, for all of those saying "Only 5 Maps" the words "SO FAR" should clue you in something missing in your well thought out, and well read responses. Yes. That was sarcasm.

BattleAxe2659d ago (Edited 2659d ago )

Wow, a whole 5 maps........they weren't kidding when they were saying "quality over quantity". Anyone who thinks this will be any different than BC2 is in for a shock. I'm willing to bet that this game releases with even less content than BC2 did, and BC2 got real boring after the first 2 months, up until they brought Onslaught Mode for $10 and Vientnam Add-on for $15. Really now, do we need to see Wake Island in every Battlefield game?

Caleb_1412659d ago

4 of the maps in the article are going to be in the "Back to Karkand" expansion for people that pre-order the game.

That leaves 1 map (Operation Metro) that has been announced for the standard game so far...

Do you really think that Battlefield 3 is going to ship with just 1 MP map for people that don't pre-order? or are you really that stupid?

I don't know why I bother to correct people in BF3 articles, half of them have no idea what their talking about.

Rearden2659d ago

These are just the CONFIRMED maps, there will be many more that have yet to be announced.

Moragami2658d ago (Edited 2658d ago )

What Caleb said. Do you people really think BF3 is launching with one map? I mean the Karkand maps will be released like a month after the game's debut. Hell the title even say confirmed "so far".

Damn, can nobody f-ing read anymore?

This article is obviously too complex for mouth breathers to comprehend. Please don't buy BF3, and if you do, buy the console version, I don't want any of you on my team, that's for sure.

Battlefield 3: the confirmed maps "so far"

ShoryukenII2658d ago

@DA_SHREDDER
Killzone 2 started with 8 maps that had much higher quality than CoD maps. It is like complaining that one chef doesn't make enough cakes when another chef makes so many muffins. Besides, only 1 map has been confirmed. The rest are for an expansion released at a later date. BC2 is better than CoD. The reason why no one tries to copy Battlefield is because it is easier to copy CoD. You can enjoy your yearly release of the same game while I play a true sequel.

DarkFantasy2658d ago

why talk about cod when we could just talk about BF3,i would really rather to just not even think about cod.BF3!! BF3!!! BF!!! BF!!!!!!!!!

This is going to be a amazing game no matter what platform you are geting it on,the Definitive shooter is on it's way!

subtenko2658d ago

Sharqi Peninsula is probably gonna be my favorite map. Looks a load of fun! I can see the online battles already :D

As long as they have a map where theres this butler that stalks you and keeps offering you wine with cyanide in it so everytime he gets within 5 metres of you, you gotta start mashing a certain button to make him back of a few steps.

DanSolo2658d ago

I see your "Wait, what?" and raise you a WTF??????

krazykombatant2659d ago

As much as I find the DA_shredder a COD fanboy, I will have to agree with him on the fact that 5 maps just really isn't that much. Obviously for PC people there is a lot more bang for your buck since they'll get access to the entire area of the map, and I don't know if its possible with the mod tools given but, i'm sure there will be custom maps available as well. Soooo... What's my point of view I would like a few more maps, maybe there will be when we get closer to october. I just don't wanna see the COD special of 4 maps for £10. And have these maps come out every other week. But then again this isn't Activision, but EA is no innocent publisher.

DanSolo2658d ago

It's 5 maps revealed SO FAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol trying reading dude.......

krazykombatant2658d ago

I said that thus far the 5 maps is nothing impressive, you say for me to try reading maybe you should take your own advice and see what a said.

DanSolo2657d ago (Edited 2657d ago )

lol I did read it... hence why I replied... perhaps you need to proof read your own comments mate.... as perhaps you are not saying what you mean or not meaning what you say! ;)

Quote: "As much as I find the DA_shredder a COD fanboy, I will have to agree with him on the fact that 5 maps just really isn't that much"

Not a comment on the maps being impressive, but a comment on 5 maps not being much. lol

Then you say,
Quote: "Soooo... What's my point of view I would like a few more maps, maybe there will be when we get closer to october. I just don't wanna see the COD special of 4 maps for £10"

lol so you say your point is you would like more maps... and MAYBE there will be when we get closer to october! lol

ramtah2659d ago

I know it's off topic, but do anyone know if there will be splitt screen on Battlefield 3?

thorstein2659d ago

Not sure, but I know what you mean. This is what people have been screaming for for years but the only team to come through so far has been Naughty Dog with UC3.

ramtah2658d ago (Edited 2658d ago )

I hope they add it man! It would be nice. Dude are you from Norway?

thorstein2658d ago

No. The Name comes from the Poetic Eddas, which are from Norse Myth: Thorstein the Staffstruc

Pandamobile2659d ago

It will probably ship with 8 maps, then the 4 BF2 expansion maps.

Rearden2659d ago

Sounds about right. Most Battlefield games have shipped with 8 or so maps.
