Dragon’s Dogma Looks Like The Next Great Fantasy RPG, Just Don’t Dare to Call it One

Joel Taveras writes, "Last week we had the chance of catching up with the fine folks from Capcom. They were in town to give the east coast press their own little E3, minus the booth babes and well… any other publishers. It was a good move considering that we totally forgot to book anytime with the company during E3 this year, and now after checking out Dragon’s Dogma, I’m kicking myself at the thought that we missed the title while we were in LA."

it looked pretty good, not the next great though, from what i saw of it.

needs a lot of work for it to get that title...

...but nonetheless, it definitely has a great amount of potential.

I'm leery of anything upcoming from Capcom after that neat little feature in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D that doesn't let you delete the game save. I really don't want that to become a trend for Capcom, especially when as you said, Dragon's Dogma holds a great amount of potential.

Speaking of Titles:

Could this one be worse? Dragon's Dogma?

All I can think of is a bunch of tribes running around and killing each other while each worships the "one, true dragon." Sort of like earth, but with dragons.

Looks Great but I from what I've seen it doesn't have Co-op. I wanna kill those big monsters with a friend.

because its not an rpg in any form........its an action adventure game. I thought capcom cleared this up

@ below

this has nothing to do with w or j. Stop with the fanboy shit. This is an action adventure with extremely light rpg elements. Its not an rpg. Capcom has said it. End of story.

And if you read the namco creators full comments you took them out of context. He was more or less joking around.

Dude, its an RPG. For some reason or another all of the big publishers from the east are now scared to apply this whole JRPG stigma. Namco just said that Tales of Xillia isn't an RPG either. Give me a break.

Gamers attention spans are getting smaller and smaller every single day, so now when they see the letters R P G , it looks like a four (even though it's only 3) letter word. They can say action all they want, but I played the damn thing. It may not have the depth of an elder scrolls title but all signs point to a role playing experience in terms of exploration and progression.

Let's meet half way and just say Action RPG. Does that sound good to you?

This game looks mediocre at best. Capcom, please just make a proper Monster Hunter for PS3...

Chadness2659d ago

I'm going to go with this. Yes, it does seem like an RPG, regardless of what Capcom is calling it, but there are much better and more intricate titles in this same fantasy genre hitting about the same time - like Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning - and I have a feeling it's going to be overshadowed.

Also, Monster Hunter for PS3 - yes, please!
