Crystal Dynamics, developers of Tomb Raider, have stated that they are creating a very different game to Uncharted.
This was one of the best demos at the E3 conferences, MS should have opened with it, not MW3, because that was kinda boring. Hopefully the game is good, been waiting for a good Tomb Raider for a few years now.
. MW3 kicked off the M$ press event in complete style with a rock concert like atmosphere...just WoW. Tomb Raider looked INCREDIBLE...dark, gritty with a edge of your seat intensity. It did remind me a little bit of Deadspace 1 with so much atmosphere and enemies grabbing at you and pulling you but WOW...such a surprise. They say the original demo was 15 minutes long ( like fable journey ) but M$ didn't have the space. If M$ would of followed that up with the Ubisoft " the definition of insanity " Far cry 3 demo, people would of fainted. Gears Of war, Fable, Halo 4 and Elmo...0_o...what else could you ask for...lol btw...listening to certain fanboys complain about a woman moaning and grunting was...um...disconcerting, like Drakes grunts are any better. :/ btw...Price of Persia, the sands of time never gets any credit these days...it IS the catalyst for all these type of games.
Prince Of Persia went down hill when they released the Forgoton Sands of time! Horrid game compared to all the others!
that they were drawing influence from Uncharted's atmosphere, as well as other games when it comes to some of the other elements of the new TR game. BUT I have to agree with them. In the end, both are always very different experiences with a lot less in common than some people may want to believe.
I guess Xbox 360-only owners who were expecting an Uncharted-like experience will be disappointed. PS360 FTW!
You do know how big a franchise Tomb Raider was (and for how long) way before Uncharted ever came along right? People here seem to think Uncharted invented the type of action-adventure that the game features but it didn't, Tomb Raider was one of the first, if not the first, to do so.
tomb raider is a great franchise, but uncharted is uncharted
Uncharted wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for Tomb Raider. Nuff said.
so? TR still sucks after 10 years.
'Uncharted wouldn't be what it is if it wasn't for Tomb Raider. Nuff said.' thank ND Uncharted DIDNT copy any of the last tomb raiders and maybe more credit should be given to indiana jones. People cant deny that uncharted is currently better than tomb raider no matter where its influences came from or you might as well dismiss 80% of the games you love this gen. The e3 demo looked good and the reboot has definitely put TR back on my radar. Luckily for me ill be grabbing both. Ive been doing that all gen IF the alternatives are any good
Tomb Raider is puzzle solving adventure. Uncharted is Hollywood action adventure movie. Two very different games(similar premise but vastly different gameplay) up until now, with this Tomb Raider reboot appearing to be going the Uncharted route. So give Uncharted credit where due and recognise that its success is changing the Tomb Raider series into copying it instead of the typical, "derp tomb raider came first" nonsense. @why o why - exactly. Indiana Jones is the obvious comparison. But even then, the Indiana films are inspired and influenced by old B movie action scenes. How far back do we want to take this? Check out AVGN doing the action scenes in the Indiana Jones films that were completely taken from the older films. @fanbot - tomb raider doesn't suck. If you're not into puzzle games fair enough, but that doesn't mean every game must be an action game because you like it that way.
Tomb Raider isn't a completely bad game, but it's just not as good as it originally was when the first game released. This one looks different though.
Uncharted is WAY better than Tomb Raider, get over it lol
you're right, Tomb Raider takes it back. but the amount of time they had to fix it and make it more accessible is ridiculous. they have yet to improve it, imo. Uncharted came in and stole the show when it comes to those types of games. i always tried to get into Tomb Raider but never could. i hope they've improved their formula but i doubt it. i'll give it a rent when it comes out but i have low expectations.
But we're all forgetting one game! ... Unearthed.
@2.1.9 - AKA Uncharted-killer /s
I hope they totally re-invent the series. I'll probably get disagreed with for this, but I hated the originals. Ugh, just so tedious!
who care's whether Uncharted took on the idea of Tomb Raider , people must know that the original Tomb Raiders where a Sony made inversion so really instead of complaining and arguing people should congratulate sony .
Actually, the original Tomb Raider was released first on Saturn and PC, then on PS1. It was originally planned as a Saturn exclusive and later went multiplatform.
i was going to say the samething but you beat me to it. so why would anyone have to thank sony for it's not like they owned Crystal Dynamics or the IP
Yeah it was a multiplatform game but i think everyone assume it was on sony exclusive well b/c it sold the most on playstaion but back then psx games were the cheapest they were around 10-30 bucks compare to the competition.
Yeah, Tomb Raider has nothing to do with Sony.
She grunts too much. Other than that I'm looking forward to the experience. The E3 demo was good.
Yeah sure. You guys practically ripped of the 'I'm injured and need to get out of here' beginning from UC2 so forgive me if I am skeptical. Add in the fact that TR hasn't had a very good game in years.
*BREAKING NEWS* Uncharted invented injuries...
looool fact is they've definitely gone for the gritty realistic approach. They may have draw a little inspiration from Uncharted from set pieces to look, why not but no drake isnt the first dude to get injured. For me it kinda reminded me of alan wake and a little bit of the blue cave section in u2...
Looks like it and I can't wait. I love Uncharted, but never got into Tomb Raider because I didn't like the Lara Croft at all....though she seems pretty interesting in this new Tomb Raider game.
Every bit of footage I've ever seen of the new Tomb Raider is just Lara Croft getting her ass beat. Crystal Dynamics is trying too hard to wipe our memories of the old Tomb Raider. You may have everyone else fooled Crystal Dynamics, but I ain't buying it.
That wasn't The Lara Craft we knew! She's actually English for once and can actually Act and puton a good accent unlike Jolie not that I complained...
my response to this being different... Good. Variety is a good thing.
Tomb Raider is most puzzles/platforming with a little combat while uncharted is all shooting with a little platforming /puzzles. I really enjoy tomb raider for the platforming but its weakness has always been story telling, thats where uncharted goes form a good game to a great game, story. This is looking really good, cant wait.
Tomb Raider honestly needed a reboot, Hopefully this will put the franchise back on track.
I'm not expecting either game to be similar. Uncharted 3 is all about over the top action whereas Tomb Raider seems to be focusing primarily on survival.
i'd like to see the tomb raider game feature less gunplay than the uncharted series, tomb raider has always been more about the environment rather than waves of enemies. keep that platforming/puzzle solving aspect at the core of the gameplay and they'll have the support of the fans of the series. and as i don't recall anything they've put out about the game so far featuring lara with a gun. she had a bow in the last trailer, but no gun.
The other Tomb Raiders, Lara had a gun, and that didn't mean all that much. You had the rare tiger, or something that needed to get shot for a puzzle, or a few baddies in the rare shooting sections of the games, but it was in no way the emphasis. I agree with you, though, Tomb Raider should just keep being Tomb Raider.
We know. Uncharted 3 doesn't do boring quick time events that are pointless and actually drag you out of the experience more when you fuck it up.
The old formula of Tomb Raider was very different to Uncharted. Uncharted is one giant set-piece while Tomb Raider was more about exploration but now with the reboot they are going in the same route and articles like this one have to be written. Don't you find that ironic?
It looks promising, gonna check it out.
