Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 Review - IncGamers

IncGamers: A word of warning: too much time spent with Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 may result in the ability to parse the following sentence and others like it, "Destroy each nonland permanent with converted mana cost X whose controller was dealt combat damage by [creature] this turn." Worse, you might start talking like that in public. It’s a dangerous side-effect of most collectible card games and the population must be kept informed.

Like Magic to play this You Must !

Kee5080d ago

Well, bought this on a whim (Having never played magic before) as it was cheap on PS plus and I have to say I'm very happy with it.

Few little bugs in online multiplayer which causes the fight to freeze that I am not happy about.

Now, about the difficulty problem the reviewer encountered: There is more than one deck you have to begin with- the wielding steel (Read: white) deck is much better than the green deck for fighting koth. I had much more success with this deck. Another deck I found to be quite good is the dragon (Red/black) deck as it is fun to play with. I've also had quite a bit of success online with them, especially after getting rid of some of the cards in it and customising the deck. It would be nice if they included the feature to build your deck from the ground up, but I think it is fine as it is.

I don't see where 5.7/10 comes from. I actually think the game is quite outstanding value and can keep you hooked longer than a lot of retail games. If you like card games or strategy then I'd say this game would be at least a 7 or an 8 for you.

Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalker 2013 Review - The Digital Fix

Reviews of games within series always feel slightly polarising. There is a constant dilemma of who the target audience should be, whether they be hardened stalwarts of the genre or completely unaccustomed. Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalker 2013 (the third release in the series) is reaching that difficult stage, particularly with its money draining annual release strategy. The review is made even more divisive by the fact this game should receive entirely separate conclusions depending on whether the reader already owns a previous release. So, let's make this simple. If you own the 2012 edition of the game, released last year, then skip down to the paragraph that begins with 'but here is the problem' and perhaps shed a tear for the overt commercialism of your favourite game. Otherwise read on.
