Hey! Listen! The Case Against Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has often been called the best game ever made since it came in 1998. Mitch Krpata of Joystick Division explains why that's totally not true.

NO! i wont listen, i wont read, i wont even open the article.

LocO_o4685d ago

I saw the title and was like another hit seeking article but let me give it a chance and see if he might be correct.

Waste of internet space and here is why.

1.Chores masquerading as gameplay
Its Zelda and not God of War 3 - Every Zelda is based on puzzles and side quest and true fans of Zelda like they game as is.

2. A huge game world - with nothing in it
This game came out on the N64 what the hell were you expecting Grand Theft Auto 4. Even games from this gen suffer the same issue Fall Out and Boderlands ring any bells.

3.Half-baked mini-games
Mingames are optional and extends the game play - would you rather the game come with out the minigames.

4.Playing a flute as gameplay lynchpin
How old are and why are you comparing Guitar Hero a game which main focus is a instrument to a game that its main focus is an adventure game. Also playing a guitar does not make you automatically cool.

5.Navi
Now your just pulling sh!t out of your a$$. How is Navi any different than Cortana from Halo or Clank for Rachet.

Article is crap period.

Pretty much. I have no regrets voting down this site. It's guttertrash, pure and simple.

ChickeyCantor4685d ago (Edited 4685d ago )

Lol, this guys is just nitpicking.

He deserves to be insulted xD

Never understood why people think Navi is annoying.
She never bothered me. =/

jamison_20074685d ago

this game rocks if you disagree plz die :)

Kran4685d ago

The thing is, and disagree if you will, is that a lot of gamers will definitly disagree with this game being the best game ever. (I aint one of them) but there will be others.

LocO_o4685d ago (Edited 4685d ago )

I totally agree with what your saying and to me Shadow of Colossus holds the crown of the best game ever. Every one has a pick for the best game ever but the article is BS because of the reasons he gave.

Thats like complaining that Golden Eye 64 did not have regenerating health or that the first Street Fighter did not have online play.

The guy is comparing a game that came out about 15 years ago to games that came out this gen. Zelda OOT was way ahead of other games in its time and still holds up to some games this gen.

8bit_Nes_Rambo4685d ago

Who would disagree? A bunch of frat-tard shooter bros chugging shots of Mountain Dew in their mom's basement? Chances are they have tunnel vision and only care about the next Fps the industry vomits out. As for the article, just another no-count site, run by a kid who probably started gaming this gen, trying to get his licks in. Pathetic.

sheetsofeaster4685d ago

I don't agree with this article, but the website is a pro endeavor run by Village Voice Media, and based on his personal blog I'm pretty sure the writer's been playing games since at least the NES. It's not some kid with a blog.

CDbiggen4685d ago

There is no best game ever. Only games that stand out from the rest. And it falls to the player to decide which in their OPINION is their favourite.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the anti-Breath of the Wild

Polygon: "To get back to the way Ocarina made us feel, it was necessary to reject almost everything about it."

Ocarina of Time changed my life forever, such a masterpiece

Zeldafan64129d ago

Hard to believe it's 25 years old already.

Cacabunga129d ago

The feeling this game gave me the first time i had my hands on it is indescribable.. i still get the chill from that day..
botw is like a spin off of the series.. it’s fun but with many flaws and the most important which is Zelda formula isn’t there..

FinalFantasyFanatic128d ago

I can't even remember how many times I played through OoT, I finished that game, and collected everything so many times.

Vits129d ago

I generally agree with the author here. However, if I had to point out a single game as the 'anti-Breath of the Wild,' that would be Majora's Mask. Pretty much everything in that game is interconnected, relies on something that the player must have done previously, is timed, and can be considered a puzzle in itself.

gold_drake129d ago

but still considered the best of the seties.

i would have liked botw to be more like ocarina.

franwex129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

25 years from today whatever Zelda is out people would too be looking fondly at Breath of the Wild.

Ah the more simple times of the 2020s.

It isn't...

Zelda: Ocarina of Time - A Legend 25 Years in the Making

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time debuted 25 years ago, forever changing the face of video games and becoming a legend of its own.

Number1TailzFan161d ago

I used a guide to beat part of it but some of the rest myself, still enjoyed it regardless. Too bad they didn't stick with this kind of gameplay for the rest of the series as I would prefer it over what they're doing now.

TheBrainZ161d ago

A definitive moment in video game history. Played it countless times, and Zelda was the best reason to own an N64.

FinalFantasyFanatic161d ago

I played through OoT so many times on the 64, then I bought it on the 3DS before the Eshop shut down. I wish we could have a Zelda collection like we did for Mario, I still can't believe that never happened.
