Tokyo (Reuters): Nintendo Co Ltd's Wii game console outsold Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 by 2-to-1 in Japan in October, a game magazine publisher said, but its lead over the PS3 shrank for the fourth consecutive month.
Nintendo sold 110,415 units of the Wii in the four weeks to October 28, compared with 47,183 units of the PS3, Enterbrain said on Friday. But the PS3, which suffered a slow start after its launch a year ago due to its high price and scarcity of strong game titles, has been closing the gap with the Wii in recent months as Sony cut console prices and beefed up its software lineup.
During the same four weeks to October 28, Microsoft Corp sold 18,717 units in Japan of its Xbox 360, which is popular overseas but struggling in the home turf of Nintendo and Sony, Enterbrain said.
It should be mentioned that the PS3 is trimming the *weekly sales* lead of the Wii. The Wii is still gaining in overall sales, when compared with the PS3.
Edit: Why would anyone disagree? I'm just clarifying the article... That's all facts. You fanboys are VICIOUS! :p
This week's Media Create numbers:
Wii 27,502
PS3 18,785
Down to just 50 percent more. And the biggest Wii game just got released to mediocre sales, only 130k for Super Mario Galaxy.
Wii to go..lol
I don't understand how the PS3 is trimming the Wii's lead in Japan when the Wii is outselling the PS3. This doesn't make sense.
We should celebrate the increasing sales of the PS3, but let's not give the detractors a reason to come in here and bash away!
