Battlefield 3 - The Lesser Of Two Evils

MMGN.com writes: It's the superlative battle of the modern warfare franchises - in the red corner weighing in at $1 billion is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, in the blue corner is the heavyweight Battlefield 3. Both titles offer modern warfare gameplay, and both games look kick ass, however it seems that the "hip" thing to do is to side with Battlefield 3. Are gamers adopting BF3 simply because it is the lesser of two evils?

While I agree with some things the author said, I definitely disagree with this statement: "Aside from the Frostbite 2 engine on Battlefield 3 chances are it's going to play exactly the same as every other game in the franchise." The Frostbite 2 engine is one of the major selling points for me to get this game. BF3 is going to play the same as previous installments - to an extent. Yes, BC2 had destruction in it, but BF3 takes it one step further. The game looks amazing, sounds great, and the gameplay looks solid. But, the fact that you're adding in a destruction is what makes it different from CoD.

I think people are finally getting sick of the same thing that CoD gives us year after year. Between the three platforms, I have well over 600 hours in BC2. I have NEVER played any CoD that much. In my opinion, the Battlefield series is just more fun than CoD ever was and a better made game that understands quality is better than quantity. Why am I buying BF3 and only renting MW3? Quite simply, I'm going to have more fun playing it than I am MW3, and I know that for a fact.

I personally don't care which game sells more because I had already wanted Battlefield 3 over Modern Warfare. Much more team oriented game and feels more realistic to me when played vs Call of Duty.

The author said that liking BF3 is the "cool" thing to do. Not for me it isn't. I've been with the BF franchise since it's BF2 port to the PS2. A lot of people are hopping on the BF bandwagon simply because it looks better. They don't care what it has in it or where it came from. For most, it's the first BF game they've seen or paid attention to, and guess what? Most of them are COD players. Just look on twitter and read what people have to say about BF3, it's the fact that now they have a new game to love and look forward to, but they don't have a clue about what Battlefield is about.

Therein lies the danger.

DICE has to walk a fine line between pleasing the older BF crowd, and the newer BadCompany crowd. The two groups are expecting their own kind of game, and it remains to be seen if DICE can please both audiences, or if one group gets the shorter stick.

Personally, I've enjoyed both BC2 and BF2, so I just want the beta to roll around.

I like BF3 because I owned MW2 and later bought BFBC2 and though the MP in BFBC2 was incredible - like nothing I've ever played.

I was so cool running away from gun fire into a building only to have a tank blow up the wall beside your cover, then being forced to grow some balls and do man vs. tank and win.

So many awesome experiences from BFBC2 make me need BF3.

My MW2 experiences were just like COD4s but less fun, then even less fun with Bops (although it had a better story than MW2s...if u can even call it that) so MW3 is completely uninteresting to me.

I haven't been playing FPS long enough to start following any crowds or deciding what's the "cool" thing. I've got 7 titles under my belt- 3 of em the last three CoDs, BFBC2, MoH, and the two Killzones- and I played them all in release order. The only games I honestly just grew tired of- or got frustrated with because of people being cheap/cheating/glitching- were the CoD titles.

I don't WANT to hate on CoD. But between the games improving a marginal amount in each installment (the graphics should be an easy fix... shouldn't they?) and Activision's greedy, money grubbing tactics (full price for a new copy of Black Ops, anyone?), I have no desire to support the franchise.

Doesn't matter to me if it's "cool." It's just what makes the most sense to me. And if I explain it to someone else, that's exactly what I say.

Call of Duty Players Disappointed by $80 B.E.A.S.T. Glove Bundle Deal

Recently, players of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone were met with a new bundle featuring the B.E.A.S.T. Glove, inspired by King Kong's armament in the Godzilla x Kong movie. However, the $80 price tag attached to this themed accessory left many Call of Duty fans feeling underwhelmed.

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.

Certain to have some sort of reference to their online store for CBD/THC chews, which is advertising heavily online the last month or two.

Sciurus_vulgaris27d ago

The randomness of the multiplayer characters is one of reason I quit playing COD after briefly returning in 2022. We got Space Marines, rappers, tree monsters etc. all in a series called “ Modern Warfare”.

OtterX27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

I think if there was ever a time for a competitor to rise up and take away some of Call of Duty's thunder, the time would be now. A military shooter that takes itself seriously, not sold out to Fortnitism. Easier said than done, I know... but the time is ripe.

I can't stand this stuff either.

Palitera27d ago

There are tons of MP shooters that make no profit, if you're looking for one of those

fsfsxii27d ago

You guys have been saying this shit since 2009. Fortunately, nobody’s bringing down cod anytime soon, if ever.

crazyCoconuts27d ago

I agree. I really didn't like how the silliness takes away the gritty origins. That and all the crazy effects... dunno. I'm still playing it but I'd love for someone to steal their cheese and cater to grittier players

OtterX27d ago

@fsfsxii It's not so much wanting COD itself to die as it is wanting this silliness to die. Like CrazyCoconuts said, it takes from the grittiness. Many OG COD players want a straightup Military shooter experience, not silly costume time at Carnival.

MW3 missed its easiest opportunity to give us some of the best Call of Duty maps ever made

From Bootleg to Black Box, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 made a heartbreaking mistake by not remastering the bizarrely forgotten maps from its namesake.
