Why Should Microsoft Apologize For Kinect?

There's no doubt that Microsoft has been successful with the Kinect. It's a special product. Perhaps that's why hardcore gamer's feel left out. Seeing the Wii U on the horizon, and Nintendo's re-commitment to both hardcore, and casual gamer's. Does Microsoft have to wake up, or do they owe real gamer's an apology so they can keep up their act?

hint: watch last 2 e3's. hardcore was non-existent.

dark-hollow3087d ago

Ok, even tho I don't own a kinect ( and not planning to, at the moment)
But kinect IS aimed at casual market!
you want hardcore?? Then to hell with move and kinect and grab the good ol traditional console controller.

WhiteLightning3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

"But kinect IS aimed at casual market"

But when it was revealed and peiople were worried they were going to the casual audience Microsoft reassured us over and over again that core gamers would be their main focus...they lied

If you reveal your product in 2009 don't you think they would of had core games ready for it's bigger, Kinect focused, E3 reveal.

The point is they are trying now to convince people that core gamers "love kinect" and that core games are "coming out" (which they've said since Kinect was revealed in 2009). In reality the majority of us core gamers don't care about Kinect, yet they go on like we do.

Look at that article a couple of days ago, they actually admited that casual audience was always their main focus.

I really don't get the gaming crowd on the one hand they say:

- There is no innovation in gaming anymore, only rehashes of sequels. Yet, when completely new experiences come out like Kinect, core gamers frown.
- Developers aren't taking the time to developer games, they are rushed! On the other hand, MS revealed their product in 2009, they should have had core gamers by now. Nevermind the fact that games like CoD (or BF) actually takes 2-years minimum to create with re-use of assets, heavy investments and known game mechanic.
- Core gamers are being left out. MS are introducing core games for Kinect now and there are already plenty of non-Kinect core games out. I never have an issue finding games, but more time to play them all.

If you don't like what MS shown, there are other platforms. Enough said....

WhiteLightning3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

@gamingdroid: It's not the point though is it, yeah just move onto another console, I finally have, I bought a PS3 ages ago but never really got into it untill Microsoft went down hill. The first thing I bought for this gen was a 360, Microsoft were great back then, they really knew what they were doing.

BUT...how about those people who can't aford a PS3 and were relying on their 360....hell some people have been loyal to Microsoft and the 360 for years...what Microsoft are doing to them/us is like a giant middle finger.

It's like people are missing the point...yeah true go and buy another console but still you can't denie the fact that this Kinect focus approach is like a giant "F*ck You" to their loyal fanbase and those 360 fanboys who have been with them from the start and made Microsoft what they are today.

gamingdroid3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

I really don't understand the argument as if MS has some kind of loyalty to their customers only to make games for their specific wants and needs, let alone that there are plenty of games (Kinect or not).

When you buy a DVD/Blu-Ray player, do you complain about the movies not being to your liking?

There is no middle finger given, and there are plenty of core games exclusive or not. I'm looking forward to CoD, Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Ghost Recon, Gears of War 3, Halo Remake, Fable: The Journey, Ryse....

Then there is always the Live TV/DVR, Xbox Live Arcade games and so on.

If think the main issue is that people expect these companies to have some kind of loyalty, and let me tell you they don't. None of the console manufacturers do!

If you can't afford another console, you can trade in your current games and console. Now, unless you are very very young, if you can't afford a console I suggest spending your time on your career instead of gaming.

Sorry to disappoint you, but that's the cold hard truth.

a couple months ago I bought this electric toothbrush with consumable tip brushes, it came with 2 replacements and each lasted about a month

since I've used the replacements I went to buy more and I'm told at the store that the company doesn't make them anymore

now, if I would've known that they were going to switch their focus to another product I wouldn't have bought it in the first place, it's just disrespectful for their costumers

if MS wants to switch to casual audiences is just fine, but they should've done it by releasing a new console and advertising it for casuals so the people who has no interest in that know about it beforehand and don't buy it

and the worse is that instead of giving us something we like, they give us something we don't like and tell us that we'll like it

the gamecube was aimed at core audiences when Nintendo went for casuals they made it clear from the first time they Wii was shown and never pretended to appeal to the PS2 audience

and please, don't pretend that if it wasn't for Kinect the 360 wouldn't have like 5 or 6 AAA core exclusives coming out this year, instead of one

The difference is that your Xbox 360 still plays games and core games are still available. The pace of them coming out is no slower than before.

It's more like you bought a toothbrush, the tips are still made, but then wish your toothbrush was more like another one. Sounds more like an uninformed consumer.

That said, usually toothbrush makers will still supply the brush long after they stop making the old toothbrush. Just contact the manufacturer.

Also, It's not like you bought a toothbrush, only to have the rotating brush feature removed because it is damaging the company's profit.....

@ WhiteLightning & malamdra
To be honest, in my opinion, you two don't sound like real gamers. You sound like PS3 fanboys trying to bash MS with whatever petty little reason you can come up with at the time. There are plenty of "core" games coming out for the 360, unless you only play exclusives. I don't know one person who really owns a 360 that has the same concerns people like you two voice every day all over N4G. It's just a troll tactic plain and simple. You act like you own a 360 and MS has abandon you, LOL, what a joke. Real gamers play games, and of those there are plenty. This is the best year of releases I've seen in a long time no matter what console you own. I mean if you are truly sincere with your concerns I feel sorry for you. I just can't really see anyone caring that much about a made up situation. It's a joke really, there is no way I could possibly take this argument seriously when these have been dropped this year:
JAN.
Dead Space 2
Two Worlds II
FEB.
Marvel vs Capcom 3
Bulletstorm
MAR.
Dragon Age 2
Homefront
Crysis 2
WWE All Stars
APR.
Mortal Kombat
Portal 2
MAY
Brink
L.A. Noire
Hunted: The Demon's Forge
JUN.
Red Faction: Armageddon
Duke Nukem Forever
Child of Eden
Alice: Madness Returns
F.E.A.R. 3
Dungeon Siege III
Shadows of the DAMNED
Postal 3

So you see there is a TON of games for the 360, and the best have yet to come. I don't think any rational person in their right mind would be hurting for something to play.
Hell I’ve bought 7 games for my 360 this year on top of Infamous 2, KZ 3, Mortal Kombat, and LBP 2 for my PS3. Hell even a few Back titles for my Wii, so no, no one is starving for games, and your concerns are unfounded IMHO.

oohWii3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

@malamdra

How is your story any different than the removal of the Other OS option on the PS3. Or even to addition of the Move controller.

Your argument is weak and I think you're just trolling.

@Darth Stewie (Below) your use of the term "xbots" says it all. Why try to act as if you give a rat's ass about the xbox users. Your sole purpose is the hate on Microsoft and the 360.

Darth Stewie3087d ago

They wont because the Kinect is printing $$$$$$$$ for them right now but still hardcore xbots should still be mad that Microsoft is giving the casual crap.

kneon3087d ago

No one should be mad because Microsoft is trying to attract a new audience. The only reason to complain is if you are unhappy with the quality and/or quantity of hardcore games coming out. If you don't care for casual games then don't buy them, no one is forcing you to.

brish3087d ago

Go to youtube and search for: kinect fail

brish3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

A few examples:

A father knocks down his child and the child cries:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

A woman breaks light playing kinect. Not sure if she cut herself, was electrocuted, or simply hurt:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Kid gets knocked out:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Guy accidentally kicks cat while playing kinect:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

There are a lot of videos of people getting hurt playing kinect. It turns out that jumping and throwing your arms around while not watching what you are doing is dangerous (you watch the tv to play kinect).

AAACE53087d ago

I'm pretty sure these people are just dumb! Before you play every game, there is a warning telling you to play in an open space and make sure there aren't any objects/people that you can hit.

Just like the issue with people breaking their tv's with the wiimote... This is just another example of ignorance!

@Brish... You do realize you fling your arms around with the Wiimote and Move don't you?

gamingdroid3087d ago

You should search youtube for car accidents.

pixelsword3087d ago

Yeah, but the same thing can be said about the Wii or Move: it's not the devices, but the people who wield them.

dark-hollow3087d ago

The amount of haters that (don't care) about kinect BUT yet they bash it in every chance they get is mind boggling!
Wow...just wow.

gameguidedog3087d ago

That's an afirm dark hollow. It does seem a bit clunky tho unless you're dancin... :)

firemassacre3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

i guess im a hater if i do not want a disneyland kinect game in production when microsoft could have made a new ip, or made alan wake 2 with that money.

Microsoft is officially a casual focused console. after gears 3, im done.

[email protected] white lightning, well said, that too.

WhiteLightning3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

....or the 50 million they spent on marketing Kinect when they could of opened a few new first party studios to make exclusive games for the 360.

@dark-hollow: When your trying to defend them why bring up Multiplats, I could counter that argument with the fact that you could buy a PS3, have the multiplatform games AND have the great exclusives coming out this year aswell.

dark-hollow3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

This core titles coming for the xbox:
Gears of war 3
Forza 4
Skyrim
Battlefield 3
Mass effect 3
Halo 4
Halo CE remake

And many more... And yes, I mentioned some multiplates games because contrary popular belief here multiplates ARE games and can be enjoyed as much as the exclusive titles.
So core games are there

Narutone663087d ago

It's $500 Million, you're missing a zero there WhiteLightning. That's a lot of money for an add-on for the 360.

bozebo3087d ago (Edited 3087d ago )

"Gears of war 3
Forza 4
Skyrim
Battlefield 3
Mass effect 3
Halo 4
Halo CE remake "

A list of rehashes and remakes... Not bad games at all, but where are the new IPs? The 360 can't survive forever without any new IP, it feels like the 360 has been stuck in Groundhog Day mode but it goes year-by-year.

Last gen we were getting amazing new IPs at this depth into the consoles' lifespans.

They don't need to apologize for Kinect. But they might need to rethink their strategy for the hardcore or they might end up where Nintendo is now...

CaptainMarvelQ83087d ago

Microsoft would only dream to be where Nintendo is right now

andron3087d ago

Yeah, I agree. I meant with regards to the hardcore players though.

Nintendo have alienated a lot of hardcore players with their Wii and motion focus. I meant that MS is in danger of doing the same if they are not careful...
