Guild Wars 2, the upcoming MMORPG from ArenaNet, will be supported with retail expansions, design lead Eric Flannum has confirmed to VideoGamer.com.

The designer said both micro-transactions and expansions were key to the continued development of the game.

well that is pretty obvious tbh, Id be surprised if they didn't release any expansions.

dang... microtransactions? i was looking forward to this game before i heard that. i would rather pay a monthly fee than to have microtransactions

Just like in GW, they'll be for things you don't really have to buy (hats, masks, mini pets, costumes, etc), nothing that affects the gameplay.

never played guildwars, i only heard about the series with guild wars 2 and didnt want to buy guild wars when 2 was gonna release soon

none of the microtransactions matter? they dont sell you better armor, a bigger item container, money or like double exp for an hour or anything like that? if its only things that look pretty than im back on board with guildwars2

Exactly as Shani said. You could buy unlocks for the skills or pets(which you could get in-game anyways for little effort) and this was released a year after the game was out. You character still needed to learn the skill to use it, so the only benefit was not having to hunt them down.

You got plenty of storage space but could buy extra storage space, though this is hardly needed unless you ran a shop.

You could also pay to change your name, gender, hairstyle etc, again, nothing that affected the gameplay. You have 6 character slots but could buy additional ones. Or hats and costumes.

As per Guild Wars 1:
You can also buy skill set for heroes (otherwise u have to unlock in the game).
You can buy extra character slots.
You can buy expansions.
You can buy pet unlock pack.
You can buy extra storage pane.

But these all items doesnt effect much in gameplay. And is released after 1 year or so. It gives u different experience.

Anet also announced the 5th expansion. "We’ve already started applying lessons from the development of Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure to our fifth expansion, which we expect to be released next year." From their site, been with this game since 1st beta, and announcing the 5th expansion so soon, the game is doing very well, plus the graphics are improved a bit now that it's on DX11🙃

Correct, and yes. Imo, they've done very well for themselves, and I'm very impressed with what they have achived with GW2 since the game launched.
