Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D Save Data Can’t Be Deleted

Eric of Writes:

"A user on the NeoGaf forums has posted an image of what looks to be the manual for RE: The Mercenaries 3Dand apparently users will not have the ability to delete saved data on the cartridge. In what seems like an attempt to prevent used game sales, could we be seeing this in future 3DS games?"

I have never heard of any game company doing this before. such a strange but effective way of deal with used games sales.

Nah strange is Nier deleting your gamesave when you get ending D. I got to ask though... how exactly is this effective? Mercs is a minigame with no story attached. At most all the characters, stages, and weapons will be unlocked with some high scores. This will take away some (limited) joy of unlocking, but the game will not change in any ways shape or form from this.

It'll vary person to person. Some may feel that because the strongest weapons, characters, maps, missions, etc. are unlocked, it'll take away some challenge and push. Obviously, since the game challenges you to do better than the original high-score, then it may not matter for most but could cause some to be slightly discourages about not being able to unlock certain aspects.

maybe it will make people think twice about buying a game that they can't start from scratch

I honestly dont see the problem. I've bought games at gamestop without them removing the save data in the past. (so its not like they wont accept it.) It might suck for people looking to unlock everything, but it doesn't detract from the core product. This reminds me a lot of the "locked" gamesaves for the ps3. These were wildly unaccepted and rarely appeared on a game. Now a days Sony uses it as a marketing point for plus.

In the end... some people might actually LIKE this. I mean we have leaderboards to prove whos the best and with someone elses scores (good or bad) it might just be an additional challenge for some.

Also since the game uses coins to unlock weapons for other characters it might also save people time.

Just save over the old data.

Problem solved.

yeah im not sure were the problem is, but a ton of people on forums and such are pissed... and apparently this happens a lot in Japan where used games are much cheaper than the used game prices we see here.

Agreed! Some website like to make a big deal out of the little problems. A simple overwrite and all will be well. I cant wait to try this game out. Already paid in full.

hazelamy3443d ago

but can you save over the data?
i've played more than a few ds games where you can't just overwrite a save if you started a new game, you have to delete the old save first, and it's only in small print in the corner of a page near the back of the manual that they actually tell you how to do that.

for example, the newer pokemon games, well heart gold at least, i haven't played black or white yet, wont let you overwrite the save if you start a new game, you have to erase the old data first.

I'm not one to buy many used games, but this is a bit much.
