Good article, but has a major mistake in the last line of the first paragraph. "As a game which began its journey as a single player only experience, with the sole purpose of recreating famous battles of the past, when did Call of Duty become the complete, multi-faceted game that it is today?"

Don't know where the author is getting his facts, but COD has always had a MP component and never was SP only. The first two COD games were PC exclusives: COD1 and its expansion, United Offensive. Both of these games had MP in addition to a campaign. In fact, United Offensive remains my favorite COD game. Before COD became an arcadey twitch shooter and "sold it's soul" to appeal to the mass market. No killstreaks, either.

He is referring to a time in games when Story came before online. Medal of Honor was (and somewhat still is) all about story too. Rather or not they had online didn't matter.

However with todays games, story seems to be the afterthought of online on almost all FPS games. Hell look at Homefront it had what a 3 and half hour campaign ?

Sorry, but I disagree. Look at the line more carefully: "As a game which began its journey as a single player only experience, with the sole purpose of recreating famous battles of the past, when did Call of Duty become the complete, multi-faceted game that it is today?"

"As a game which began its journey as a single player only experience", is not referring to a time in games when story came before online. Its in the singular: "as a game", "its journey". It also plainly states "a single player only experience", not what you are contending that online didn't matter. Further, the sentence continues with "when did Call of Duty". It is not referring to other games like MOH.

Also, look at the very next paragraph in the article: "Call of Duty’s debut title on current generation consoles was with Call of Duty 2. Supplying a similar, yet still entertaining campaign like the previous titles, this Call of Duty title introduced us to the multiplayer component of the series for the first time, and became hugely popular."

See how he says "this Call of Duty title (COD2) introduced us to the multiplayer component of the series for the first time". Again, he is stating that the previous COD's didn't have MP and is just plain wrong.

I could of sworn the first COD and a spin off came out on PS1, but I was wrong. Only Medal of Honor was out at the time...

However also realize he stated consoles, and the first COD didn't officially release on consoles, the second one did however.

(I'm not defending the writer, only defending the statement in a way that I portrayed it at least. I miss when games had a focus on story as much as they do for online)

Yeah the face may change but the person behind it never does.

fooxy3083d ago

Didn't really bother to read it because in my opinion face of cod titles stopped changing after number 4. Now its just milking the casual gamers every year with another reheated plate of same ol food

consolez_FTW3083d ago

Soo...I guess the COD facial expression hasn't changed much since MW1...
