Feature: PC Vs Console Gaming?

Today I would like to look at the age old question, PC vs console gaming. Everyone is looking for the ultimate gaming experience, and most people will tell you that it is the PC by default. Is this really the truth though? Sure you will get the BEST graphics and performance available on the PC both now and in the future, but the fact of the matter is that the inferior console versions look great as well. Luckily there is one gamer out there who has taken the time to make a few videos explaining the pros and cons of PC gaming because despite what many people believe, it isn’t for everyone. This particular gamer has been an owner of all three consoles of this generation from the start and has gotten into PC gaming over the past year. I now turn the spotlight to a gamer who is only looking for the best experience possible when it come to gaming, Solid Rev…

Why compare to begin wtith it's like saying if you like Coke or Pepsi, in the end your be gonna playing the games you love it shouldn't matter what system.

nix5116d ago

Console gamers UNITE!!! q;

d3nworth15116d ago

Coke has a more acidic aftertaste while pepsi has a sweet aftertaste.

evrfighter5116d ago

consoles are like the new coke.

jacksonmichael5115d ago

Pepsi is syrupy and horrible. Coke is awesome.

AndrewRyan5115d ago

Bad metaphor... It's nothing like coke vs pepsi. With PC gaming you are getting a lot more features for an extra cost. It's more like 6 pack of coke, vs 1 coke.

Lekumkee5115d ago

Dr Pepper beats all....

I am really surprised that people are sticking on the graphics thing so hard. PC gaming is more than graphics. There is frame rate and load times to think about when you are talking performance. The load times alone are huge. I wouldn't want to play a game like Dead Rising 2 on consoles with the huge load times every time you enter or leave your safe house, but on PC the load times are almost nill. Mass Effect 2 is made a lot smoother over all because every time you go someplace, it loads super fast.

The over all experience is very different on a PC. Alt+Tab is major boost to PC gaming. I can pause the game and then do just about anything else on my PC. The PC doesn't just have cross game chat, it has cross anything chat. I can stream my games and chat with a friend across the world about what is going on right now in my game. With a dual monitor setup your options grow even farther.

Options are greater all around on the PC than consoles. I can customize my UI to however I want it. Where on consoles you are stuck with what was built in. My Desktop looks nothing like anybody elses desktop, and it's functionality is tailored to my needs. That can't be said about consoles. This is a big fundamental difference between a lot of console and PC gamers. For a lot of PC gamers, it is very important to them that they control everything about their system and the experience they get from it. Where most console gamers are fine with what they got while always wanting more.

I own all the consoles and have gamed many many long hours on all of them(except my Wii). I really like my consoles, but the PC has my heart. This article only really says that PC gaming isn't for casual or the lazy, which is true. The PC is something that what you get out of it is a result of what you put into it.

Thats like saying a Ferrari vs a Civic.

How is it lame?

Go play Crisis 1 and The Witchier 2 in max settings then go play Gear 2 and Uncharted 2 on your consoles and let me know which game looks better and runs smoother.

Go drive a Ferrari and then go drive a civic and let me know which is faster and handles better at top speed.

LocO_o5116d ago

I guess the 2 people who disagreed with me have never played Crysis on max setting or driving a Ferrari.

Console gaming is ok but the technology in the 360 and PS3 is holding back developers and making games less than what they can be.

DragonKnight5116d ago

*sigh* So much fail in 2 posts LocO_o

@LocO_o

"Console gaming is ok but the technology in the 360 and PS3 is holding back developers and making games less than what they can be."

I see. Did this hold back the PC graphics in Metro 2033, Metro: Last Light, Battlefield 3, ect.? I've pointed out to many PC elitists that many of the best looking games ever on PC have also been multiplatform. I'm still waiting for any of them to successfully refute this point. Give it your best shot.

BTW, I'm no PC hater, either. I'm in the early stages of assembling a ~$2000 rig right now. Waiting on parts to arrive. 6990/2600K/Corsair1200W/G.Skil l 1866 RAM

Yet I'm also just as excited as I've ever been to play Uncharted 3, The Last Guardian, Gears 3, and even downloadable stuff like Journey.

WANNAGETHIGH5116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

@LocO_o Seriously he was right...That was very lame and u trying to prove its not lame even makes u look lamer.

wtf are u comparing games to cars for if anything cars sort of have the hardware and software cept you ARE THE software that runs it

so you need the hardware difference to compare the games u ment...... ahhhh F#@$ it the post doesnt make any sense lol

d3nworth15115d ago

The thing is both PC and consoles have advantages and disadvantages over each other. Yeah you get better performance with PC but there are alot of headaches that come with it. Console don't have the performance but are easy to use and so easy to maintain a child could do it. Your own analogy ferrai and civic. Ferrai expensive to buy, expensive to maintain and burn alot of gas. Civic affordable, cheap to maintain and better gas milage than ferrai.

All of those are the minimum specs for those games. So basically, yes, High end and Mid end PCs are more capable game machines than the HD consoles, but consoles are more capable than the lowest end PC's and Laptops that play most games, and developers are on record for specifically making their games work for LOW END PC's.
So if any machines are holding developers back, it's PC themselves that are the culprit....LOW END PCs and Laptops.

Just a little food for thought Loc0_o.

Ravens205115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

So spend $700+ so i can play the same games that I play on consoles but with prettier graphics?

MEH no thanks, Gameplay over graphics.

& I don't want to play with the lame PC community where nobody has mics but instead communicates through keyboard. I'd rather play with my friends on consoles that actually have mics.

What is so great about PC gaming apart from the graphics?

ZombieNinjaPanda5115d ago

@ravens

One, that is a retarded statement. Every PC game has tons of mic users in them.

2, you can use a pc for more than just games. Hence why it's a damn Pc.

Three: What's so great about? Let's see, Mod support, graphics of course, better performance, you don't have to pay for online, everything is a lot cheaper than consoles, you can hook it up to your tv if you want and play on your couch.

You wonder why people keep saying PC Master Race dontcha?

No wonder gaming has gone down the shitter. we have idiots like you ruining it for us.

Vega755115d ago

"Nobody outside of you PC nerds care about performance and graphics"

then you haven't been in a thread where graphic's is all most sonyfanboys talk about. just go into any uncharted/killzone thread and watch the fanboys talk about graphics and preformance when they want to compare every 360 game to uncharted/killzone.

Have u seen the people that play Halo, or Uncharted 2?!

See what I did there?

Moron, you can't guess what a person looks or acts like based on a gaming platform, or favorite game.

theonlylolking5116d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

A lot of WoW peeps are annoying just like peeps in COD but different games have different audiences. You should play more PC games than WoW so you can find a game with people you like.

Battlefield, iracing, F1 series, portal 2(online), etc... have people I do not find annoying that often. When you said"PC gaming is for geeks who care about all that techy BS" You just do not like having to think about the tech. it is not geeky to know what is in your PC and how it works.

@b_one
For $400 you can get a PC that can play every multiplat game on high(except maybe BF3)

@myotherhatisyourmom

High quality graphics, better control and control flexibility' mods out the ying yang, oh and a simple alt tab to do anything else you wish.

Consoles are like a 1984 Nissan; while PC's keep upgrading models.

Stupid to compaire them anymore; unless you think 720p doesnt matter; 720p is a huge fucking joke; even then you lose out on alot of AA/AF MSAA to make 720p look 'ok'. Most of the time it looks like a jaggfest.

Consoles are far to old to even be considered in the same ballpark. PCs are center mound and consoles are in the piss tray.

awi59515115d ago (Edited 5115d ago )

Shouldnt the pic be a kitten fighting a tiger lol? The tiger being the pc.

awi59515115d ago

I say it does do you know how bad pc graphics cards from 6 years ago are by today standards. Sorry those console gpus are dead tech not good at all. Thats like trying to run crysis 2 on a Geforce 5200 or a Ati 3870 its old tech it doenst run well anymore time to upgrade console. Stop whining about how your games dont match up to pc. You guys love to make fun of the wii's outdated tech well thats how much your outdated compared to pc.

Octo15116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

I've always said that comparing the "which one is better?" comparison between PC and console gaming is quite a useless and a waste of time thing to do.
PC will always have the upper hand when it comes to graphic since its quite obvious what is out there for options for upgrades for graphics cards.
Console developers have to work with what's in the box when they develop games and they are aware that there is a limit to consoles as far as graphics.
PC game development graphically can be pushed again due to what kind of graphics cards, processors, and RAM PC games can put and interchange in a PC.
With all that being said I personally will stick to console gaming because I don't have the time and the patience to have to worry about do I have a good enough PC to play a game.
I just like knowing that I pop in a disc and it will work. With all that being said, why don't we stop with all this PC versus console gaming BS and just play :)

Takoulya5116d ago

I'm honestly very confused. I've been wanting to get a gaming PC for a while now, but when the time's come that I have the opportunity to, I'm wondering if it's worth it or not. The consoles have pretty much all the games that PC does, bar a few, and although there are a few good exclusives coming out, is it worth it dropping $750 when I already have a PS3 to play on? If a PC gamer could convince me to get one, or warn me not to, I'd really appreciate it.

fluffydelusions5116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

Did you watch the videos in the link? I may get hated for saying so but I think he brings up some valid points and I'm a PC/PS3 gamer at present. TBH though my next PC won't be a gaming one. I do 99% of my gaming on PS3 so there is very little reason for me to drop all that money on a gaming rig when I can play the same games there and with people I know. I only really purchased this one to play SC2 and Diablo 3. I have several other games on PC but no one I know plays them on PC so I just end up playing them on PS3.

Hassassin5115d ago

Ask yourself this questions: Are you as stupid as the guy on the video? Do you only play shooters AND are a bad loser? Are you willing to learn some stuff on your own? (it is not programming or shit... just learn to follow instruction generally) Can you build a computer? (on this point... Building a computer, for me, was easy as hell; built 3 with no problems on any).
Consider that most of the problems the guy on the video has are because he is lazy and impatient... are you like that?
Other than that, PC gaming is the way, I love it (built my first computer a year ago).

Takoulya5115d ago

Yeah, you're right, Hassassin. I know a fair bit enough about computers (at least enough to know to use Google instead Geek Squad), I like a variety of games and I'm willing to adapt to different play styles. I think I'm gonna get that PC. Thanks!

MechWarrior5795114d ago

If all you are gonna be doing is playing games then i would not get a pc just for gaming. however if you will be doing a buttload of other stuff plus gaming then go ahead and get it. plus another thing with pcs the better hardware you have in it then the easier and faster and smoother it is to do everything on a pc.

if you are wondering "do I have a good enough PC to play a game"

its because you havnt tried PC gaming since 2003 or something or you are expecting your laptop to be capable of gaming.

since 2007, a standard pc (ie, with a reasonable 512MB graphics card and dual core cpu) will run any game released to this date.

fluffydelusions makes a good point, the best platform for an individual is the platform which their friends buy their games on.

a load of people I know realised that they could spend £150 on a graphics card and max out crysis, so my multiplayer gaming is all on PC. Oh also, I cannot stand peer 2 peer multiplayer for shooters (inconsistent matchmaking, lag potential, lack of community sense, no mods or custom rules etc) so I guess that is another big factor, but I still get a game of Reach in now and again (after the matchmaking stops lagging out etc.) and enjoy it plenty.

NYC_Gamer5116d ago

there is no battle between platforms only people on forums go all serious over this non sense

solar5115d ago

i never hear my PC brothers complain about anything to do with consoles. you are 100% correct NY. when we do talk about consoles is if you have played this game and its pretty damn sweet! or if a game is multiplat and is a bad port to stay away til a sale.

i love gaming. and im not going to tell anyone to game on one platform or the other. we are all here for the same purpose, our love for gaming. we should all be gettin the eff along.

BeastlyRig5116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

I like PC games soo I play on pc..

Console players play on console cuz they like console games..

We all play mostly the same games with different constrols..

no vs needed.
