IGN - Master Chief is Changing For Halo 4

IGN say: 343's Frank O'Connor has explained why Master Chief looks a little different in the reveal trailer for Halo 4, hinting that his personality is going to change as well.

In an E3 interview with Official Xbox Magazine, O'Connor, formerly of Bungie and the Halo series' Franchise Director, had this to say: "There's some story behind his new look... There are specific reasons why he looks the way he does and why some of his behaviours have changed. We'll see in good time."

I see disagrees, but I really don't see what is so objectionable about playing another protagonist in a Halo game.

It's allegedly meant to be a franchise, so why experience the main games from the viewpoint of one guy all the time?

you seem to be forgetting ODST and Reach. you didnt play as Master Chief in either of those.

Halo 4 is the continuation of Master Chiefs story - of course youre going to play as Master Chief! you wouldnt make you play as Alfred instead of Batman in Batman Arkham City just for something different, would you?

True, but I said main games. That was my trying to say Halo's in the main storyline (Halos 1-3). Not prequels and side-stories.

I don't know why people are responding as if I suggested something horrible, like there can never be a good Halo that:

1) continues the storyline proper
2) features a different protagonist

And personally, I think that's a lot better than arbitrarily changing the face of the series just to mix it up.

I really hope they use the character fully instead of leaving him kind of blank for the player to immerse. There's so much back story they could tell. It'd be awesome if they had flashbacks to his youth on Reach and how he learned his combat skills. Introduce the rest of the spartans through flashbacks and eventually make him meet them again.

Not really, a few Spartan IIs remain. If you read "Ghosts of Onyx" the three remaining Spratan IIs other than John (MC) are Fred, Kelly, and Linda along with a few Spartan III and Dr. Halsy and PCO Mendez. If Halo 4 follows the books story line and plot, then chances favor we will meet them, considering the game takes place in Onyx and also that they do follow the books because Reach completely conflicted with the book "Fall of Reach".

It's all good, Shadow. It's been a while since I've read GoO to be honest and I had forgotten about those 3. It would be nice to see some other Spartan IIs in action.

Did they say that the game takes place on Onyx? Because I don't remember hearing/reading that anywhere. I figured that was just speculation.

I don't know, Parasyte. One would assume so since that is one way the franchise can move towards. After all it does assume to be a shield world such as the one in Halo Wars. Apart from that I can't really guess were else that place in the trailer may be. Any ideas?

Also we don't know the time gap between Halo 3 and 4, we might be fighting the remnants of the Covenant in Halo 4.

the Halo 4 announcement seems to be very underwhelming. im not a Halo fan but when Halo 3 got announced the internet went crazy, so what has happened? is it cause Bungie is not developing it?

Yeah but the halo 3 trailer was one of the best trailers i've seen. Besides it was the first halo on the 360, the reason why most people bought the new console. Halo 4 only had a 30 seconds CGI trailer..

Dude, the video teased at E3 has nearly 4 million views on youtube already. Just after 2 weeks. Halo 3 was announced with an in-game rendering of what the game was supposed to be like, this however, was a cgi teaser to get people excited. Nothing more, nothing less. By the time E3 '12 comes around, Halo 4 will be on everyone's lip, that I can guarantee.
