Absolutely. Take a look at an old game: Jak 3.

That game incorporated so many different genres of gameplay, and did it well!(what'd you expect from the creators of Uncharted?) Hehe...

Racing,FPS,3rdPS, Sandbox, GTA-style(steal vehicles), RPG, Airbourne dogfights, Platforming, pac-man. The list goes on. Oh, and the maps were huge for a ps2 game....oh yeah.

jak is fine. But when it comes to pure platformers, its outclassed in terms of platforming.

In terms of its adventure parts, Its outclassed by pure action adventure games
