Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told investors that the “ideal situation” for Nintendo is that the Wii U 2012 launch will convince people who are looking to buy a HD console to wait for it, instead of buying a 360 or PS3 now.
Now that's a bad idea; and I know something about bad ideas... (goes off into Family Guy flashback)
Lol why buy a console at 300usd -400usd when its going to come equipped with a GPU thats already 3 gens old by the time it launches. I would rather spend the money getting games for my PC which will still be more advanced then the specs rumored for Wii U lol.
LOL true that... sad that some games will never be seen on PC sadly...
It works both ways some of the games wont be present on console either. Currently playing Shogun 2 and Witcher 2 on my PC. Having a blast with it. Best solution is to get a PC and Sony console. PC for all multiplats and PC games plus Sony console for all Sony exclusives and console exclusives. That way you are pretty much covered. MS doesnt have too many exclusvies most of their exclusives are present on the PC, Wii games so far run better on PC via dolphin. Wii U looks like a disaster waiting to happen.
I just wish they would do something about that dam controller! I couldn't see playing games on that for more than 10 minutes! I'm hoping that is just the early controller.
Here are the deal breakers for me... New controller is just a controller, PS vita can probably do the same stuff and leave the house as well. The new controller looks like it has a lot of opportunities to be a tablet for the living room but it won't be. The console looks like it is nintendos step into this gen and not next gen. Won't play DVD or blu-ray.
Substance101, they're talking about consoles not PCs, so your comment is rather moot.
@ Substance101 I like the little jab you took at MS, but as a gamer I say own them all if you can. I like to be able to play any cool game that comes out, so to not miss out on anything I say (again if you can) have them all. For example this year I already have Infamous 2, and I will get Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3, Diablo 3, Legend of Zelda SS, ME3 and I'm sure a few other I can't think of right this second. In my opinion all 3 consoles and the PC have something worth getting, so there's no need to be a troll and leave out any of them.
if you already own a wii, xbox, or a ps3 you probably aren't a gamer.
PS3 is where the "First Party Games" are at.
I think he forgot to put "don't" in there somewhere.
I realllly don't know about that controller...
Hmm...buy a 300 dollar console with a large back catalogue of games and good graphics now.... or wait til next year and pay the same price for a console with prolly equal graphics and a few launch titles..... #smh
BAM! Thats pretty much how i see it. Nintendo fans will go for it but anyone else will not be tempted to buy this for HD games unless its a lot faster than PS3 and 360. They will be even cheaper by the time this turns out and have a vast back catalogue of triple A titles, going cheaply.
I will get it just to have all the consoles out, and so I don't miss out on any good exclusive that will come out on WiiU. I will probably wait until it has a few games worth getting first though.
How about showing us actual games with gameplay that are coming out for Wii U before trying to sell your console to us Nintendo? For me, the old fashioned controller is the way to go.
Is Nintendo going to give me God of War, Resistance and Uncharted? I don't think so.
No but they will give you 10 versions of Mario and Zelda which for some reason people aren't getting tired of.
Why wait? With all the deasl flying around, you can own a PS3 for $200 after the $100 gift card at BB. You get a gaming system and bluray player. And most importantly, people probably know people with either a PS3/360 who they can play online games with. Also, no one knows the price of the WiiU yet or how their online system will be. So I say it's not worth the wait.
We know exactly the current state of the Nintendo online service... It doesn't exist. In the next year they need to build a social network from scratch something nintendo has never done, and the couple of times they have tried it, has been a total disaster.
I mean you could wait by why would you? I have a ps3 and i definitely plan on getting the wii u. Reason: Can't play ps3 exclusives on wii u, can't play wii u exclusives on ps3.
Honestly, when was the last time there was a Nintendo game spoken like a classic? The ones I always keep hearing about are LoZ:OT, LoZ:MM, Mario 64, Starfox 64, in fact mostly games from N64. People go crazy about the remakes but the newer ones, I hardly hear people rave about it after a few months. I don't hear kids talking about Mario's next adventure or about Link in his epic quest from kids like I was when I was little. Now all kids spew out is how they are going to own their friends in the next CoD game. The only Nintendo game I hear younger generation really talk about is Pokemon. If anything, Nintendo needs to step up their game, freshen their line otherwise they will sooner or later face a huge problem.
I know kids still like mario though. It is true that i haven't heard many kids talking about zelda. Though i know nintendo wants to fix the problem and capture the "CoD crowd" by making there system more hardcore. The only reason they are even making this system is to please 3rd parties. I do wonder how it well fare against the next box and ps4.
Not as much as when I was a kid about 15 years ago. I mean the only Mario game kids talk about is Mario Kart not the good old side scroll platform game. Yeah, but the thing is, if Nintendo don't make the bridge between casual and hardcore, they fall into a gap where it doesn't quite fit in either which I think will be a lot worse than being just casual. Also, using older games for the hardcore, not a smart idea. Many of us who wanted to play those games, already played it or can get it at bargain bin price. If they are launching it to aim at the hardcore, they need to aim at new games not old. Not only do they need to aim at new game but prove that their online ecosystem will be great, easy and gamer friendly. I hate that friend code shit.
Exactly what i feared, Nintendo is releasing a current gen console 6-7 years late, why would anyone buy a Wii U over a PS3 or 360 with their VAST libraries? and then the year after the PS4 and Nextbox will likely get announced... What are you doing, Nintendo?
I wont buy a Wii U because there wont be a GT or Forza type game on it and it doesnt have BlueRay. Ill opt to buy a PS3 and Xbox360 instead. The PS3 will be for video upscaling , GT5 and BlueRay videos. The Xbox 360 for Forza 3 and Forza 4.
I would honestly love to know why I was disagreed with? Am I not entitled to my own opinion?
Between sims like GT and Forza, and Arcade racers like NFS, Burnout etc. what racers could you possibly need on Wii U? Mario Kart is the only thing that comes to mind. (I didn't disagree, just giving a reasonable answer, even though this probably wasn't the case at all)
I dont like arcade racers much. I much rather sim racing.
Nah I'll stick with my PS3/PC and wait for PS4,.. WiiU will probably be cheap by then,.. and Zelda might be out,..Certainly not getting it before HD Zelda hits,.. and that seems far far away,..
I don't think the casuals will adopt Wii U and if that doesn't happen I think Nintendo is done.
First off if they want people to wait they need to show something more concrete than a vague outline. also they are getting a bit complacent relying on the Wii momentum to sell the Wii U, and as with seen in the past just because one console sells well that doesn't mean the next one that company makes will. Hopefully they will share a ton of details at TGS.
Trading in my PS3 for this bad boy ;)
the wii is gathering dust while i play my ps3. and nintendo are to blame for that, for having NO new games on wii for the foreseeable future. do they really think im going to just stop playing games and wait for wiiu? how naive are they?? so, nintendo need to bring the goods come wiiu launch. if the wiiu isnt clearly more advance than ps3 then i wont be buying. and if their plan is just to move their wii user base over to wiiu, then i think they will lose the next gen for sure. they should be concentrating on winning the minds of ps3/360 users, and getting them wanting to buy wiius. if nintendos only interest is the current wii userbase, then absolutely nothing will have changed. they need to also get the interest of the competitions userbase.
If it's the same base, they have already failed. Think about it, those who are hook onto gaming has grown quite a bit and will move on to more hardcore games. Now you can always try and hook the newer casual crowd but the problem is the Wii is dirt cheap and to them iPad, Wii, WiiU, and whatever other gimmick device all seem the same to them. When a kid whines to their parents about buying a game console, the parents aren't going to know the difference and probably will end up getting the cheapest option, the Wii. So unless they remove the Wii from the market, WiiU will be going up against the Wii as well as PS3, 360, iPad and other new gaming devices. To win the minds of PS3/360 user, they have to excel greatly as well as create an online system that's not only viable but gamer friendly not family friendly which goes against their ideals. That becomes expensive and the console will become costly. Nintendo has always had a bad rep when it comes to 3rd party games which probably result in difficulty of collecting higher licensing fee. This along with the fact Nintendo hates selling a system at a lost. Factor everything together, they have a recipe for disaster. I don't see it in WiiU, maybe this might be the link but not the WiiU. If they survive next gen, then there is a chance. I started on Nintendo, grew up to my teens and moved on to PlayStation and been gaming on PS devices.
yes gamers have grown. only hardcore seems to mean hardware capability, rather than the gaming experience. i think hardcore is the most misleading term in gaming, its almost cliche. I think mature would be better suited to describe the type of game often referred to as hardcore. there were many 'hardcore' (ie mature) games on the wii, only nintendo wanted to exploit the family orientated experience instead. i have a wii, and my problem isnt that it wasnt mature enough, rather there wasn't enough third party support. so that is my reason for getting a ps3- simply because games stopped coming out on wii. if the wiiu has cutting edge tech and games like assassins creed, grand theft auto and all the other games associated with 'hardcore gaming,' then those gamers will want to buy it. if as you said, nintendo also provide a online service that is up there with psn, then i dont see any reason why a so called hardcore gamer would refuse a wiiu. i think thats as simple as it is, and when you think of it, being 'hardcore' is so shallow. for those of us who aren't shallow, nintendo are betting on us liking the wiiu because it does something different and unique, in this case the way the controller interfaces with the console. so those who have become bored of the norm will be attracted by wiiu, like many were to wii. so if anything, sony and microsoft will have a hard job to impress the consumer if all they have to offer is a console with a better spec sheet. only totally shallow people with no interest in anything other than graphics will be impressed. sony/microsoft have already bent over backwards to please different crowds by releasing move/kinct, so what makes you think they wont take a different approach come next gen?
thats a stupid idea it will cost the same amount as a ps3 or 360 and wnt have even half the games some wii u games hav already been on ps3 and 360 from 2 years ago and the controller weird plus so far as i know only supports one per console. i hav a 360 and a ps3 if this system make sense like if it was a big step forward i would still buy but there is alot of things nintendo needs to clarify and quickly
If I didnt have ps3 or 360 I would still be interested in Wii U. But why wait for a 7.5 gen console if I could get a real 8th gen machine just a little later? And if the real 8th gen consoles were backwards compatible with the great catalouge of games today then it would be ace! I am looking a bit forward to Wii U which is likely have better graphics than and many of the same features that is on ps3 and 360 + greater 3rd party support than Nintendo have had since N64. but I will much rather have a ps4 if its anything like the last 2 PS consoles. PS3 and Vita = great games, Ace hardware and a bucketload of Features.
