Digital Foundry- Face-Off: Duke Nukem Forever

Digital Foundry: "Perhaps it is best to view Duke Nukem Forever almost as a retro piece, and at a stretch you might even call it an HD remaster of a game that never came out. Unfortunately though, despite the simplistic graphics, this game doesn't actually run in a high-definition resolution on either console platform.

What we're seeing here looks like an 1152x640 framebuffer on both console versions, without the benefit of any kind of anti-aliasing whatsoever. The game is a mess of shimmering jaggies and high-contrast edges and there's very little in the way of post-processing (for example, motion blur or bloom) that would help to mitigate the very visible aliasing, which is only exaggerated as the game is upscaled by the consoles to a 720p output. "

Oh man.. Ridiculously bad graphics and the 360 version is still completely botched. It's like they didn't even bother optimizing it at all.

At this point does it even matter what system it's better on. You can only imagine how the developers feel right now with so many extremely negative reviews.

it looks like halo 3 in the first part of the gamestop ads then all you see is UBER shiny textures

kind of pointless since it looks early gen

1 interesting thing that comes up in this article is the implementation on the PC version of a new type of Anti-Aliasing that will work on the consoles, that is BETTER than the MLAA solution for the PS3 because it does the same AA but also takes care of sub-pixel issues that sonys MLAA has. and it runs off the GPU, giving the 360 an advantage in running it.

as for the game........well being a fan of duke nukem for 15+ years, i dont think i should play this :(

I did a little research, the guy who developed it currently has it running on both consoles about the same, the assumption of it being better on the 360 is digital foundries' assumption. If anything reading the guys blog, seems to side with the PS3 which might not pose well for 360 optimizations. This might be a good thing all around, with ps3 devs going back to using spus for things like depth of field(U2)and lighting (ie kz2) instead of Anti Aliasing.

Crap game, but people can no longer say that multiplats are better on 360. If 2011 is anything to go by, they perform and look marginally better on PS3....but still 99% are 99% identical.
