Microsoft: No Portable Xbox 360, Buy a Windows Phone 7

The Technology is there to make a portable Xbox 360 (Sony's PS Vita is practically a portable PS3 and the Nintendo 3DS a portable Wii), so why has Microsoft still not challenged Nintendo and Sony in the portable arena? Microsoft's answer: the portable market is hard to crack.

Well, Microsoft could make a portable Xbox 360, but it doesn't want to because apparently "any dedicated portable device like a camera, or a portable gaming device like the 3DS has a tough time" says COO and CFO Dennis Durkin of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. Who said a portable Xbox would be a dedicated gaming device? The PSP and DSi, 3DS and PS Vita aren't, why would we expect a media rich platform like the Xbox to be a single trick pony?

Micrsoft said this ages ago the the windows 7 phone was there hand held which is a little silly maybe if they made it like the expreria play or n gage

Who in the heck wants a Windows phone?

I've had Window's phones before, and they have ALWAYS sucked.

Currently I have an IPHONE.
I'd like to have an Adroid.
I'll take a Blackberry and use it for a little bit.

But a Windows phone? If you gave it to me, I'd put it up on Craigslist the next day.

Windows mobile =/= Windows phone 7

WP7 is brand new and not in any way the same as windows mobile, so no, you haven't used windows phone, but while I am somewhat of a Sony fanboy, I use windows phone 7 and imo it is a great phone
And yes I have had a couple windows MOBILE phones also, didn't care for them much, but they are not the same phone

I have a Samsung focus and there is no WiFi problem with wp7, it is probably your router or something, because it handles WiFi great and I haven't heard of this problem with the phone

Obviously you're commenting about Windows Mobile like NiKK_419 said.

They are not the same. Windows Phone 7 has a portable version of XBL, integrated Facebook built into contacts, and the freshest take(IMO) on smartphone operating systems. The Metro UI is actually being introduced in future Microsoft products such as Windows 8 and the Xbox 360 dashboard this fall.

I really wish iPhone users would do some research on the competition. You're not the first IOS user I've seen being completely disconnected from the competition's offerings.

Mango is a big update for Windows Phone set to release later this year adding 500 new features to the phone. Nokia also is partnering with Microsoft to distribute phones this year and next. The phone launched last November and is already at 20,000 apps and growing.

The phone has potential. It may not be a dedicated handheld console, but it does it's job for games and apps on the go.

the look on the face of the kid that gets a Win7 phone instead of a Sony Vita --->

gaming on a phone is nowhere as satifying as it is on a home console or handheld device. i have angry birds on my droid 2, and i go weeks without actually playing it until i have to urge to play a board or two.

phones, and tablets just dont cut it for me, for actual true gaming.

I've been saying this for a while. MS won't come out with a handheld because WP7 has XBL integrated. I know it's not the same as a handheld due to lack of buttons and core titles you'd find on PSV but MS seem to be on the same school of thought as Apple that casual games like angry birds are the future.

Uncharted3Goty2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

so the windows phone 7 is Microsofts answer PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS ?

fluffydelusions2685d ago

Correct and you may as well toss Apple into the mix also.

dangert122685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

well more like there a reply to those phones

Uncharted3Goty2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

It looks like Microsoft is dedicated to there Windows 7 phone so i way i see it. its there answer to them not having a handhald console.

slavish32685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

how is Wp7 m$ answer and it came out 1st? Last time i checked Vita and 3ds were not phones. Google or apple if any...

Uncharted3Goty2685d ago (Edited 2685d ago )

correcting to Microsoft it is so well have to see.

also its a gaming platform as well it will have xbl and games on it to so the way Microsoft sees it is.

slavish32684d ago (Edited 2684d ago )

Uncharted3Goty @ i see you ignored my 1st point because you had no argument. 2nd vita/3ds is in competition with wp7/iphone/android but not vise versa. people are NOT giving up phones for handheld only decives but people are giving up handheld only decives for pda/smart phones! being a blind fanboy is never good :P

THC CELL2685d ago

U cant play halo or cod on phone so no its not the same as vita or ds

iforgotmylogin2685d ago

Microsoft is smart to stay out of it and not jump into this battle of sony copying nintendo.

it would just hurt windows mobile 7 imo

and the psp is not selling like hotcakes unless you lower your numbers expectations.

xperia play should just be taken off the market.
