[Gaming Evolution] L.A. Noire Review

L.A Noire is an interactive detective story set in the classic noir period of the late 1940's. L.A. Noire blends action, detection and complex storytelling and draws players into an open-ended challenge to solve a series of gruesome murders. Set in a perfectly recreated Los Angeles before freeways, with a post-war backdrop of corruption, drugs and jazz, L.A. Noire will truly blend cinema and gaming.

I really am enjoying this game. Though I would like to see a bit more of the gunplay option. The shootouts that do happen seem to be rather short in nature.

I like the fact that you have to actually pay attention to the clues and everything you hear or you will just be lost when questioning suspects.

Some say that questioning is hit or miss. I haven't found that too much. Someone telling the truth is the easiest... they simply don't wander their eyes around or give you any real feedback that they are holding something back.

Lies are probably the hardest to figure out... you know they are lieing to you but you need to be able to show evidence of that fact. So just doubt them if you have no evidence to prove their visual cues of not telling the truth. You REALLY need to examine the evidence and think about some things that are relevant to the questioning. It is possible that an evidence item can be used to prove lies more then once during an interview.

My favorite part about the game is identifying the actors that appear through out the game. Seeing characters that you have grown to identify mostly as bit actors in other TV shows or films.

I happened to be watching the lawyer show "The Good Wife" and was shocked to see the defence attorney of the main case was our main character Cole Phelps in L.A. Noire... just felt weird seeing the video game character in real life after playing this game. My girlfriend who has been entertaining herself with watching my video game antics immediately identified it herself and was strangely in glee over the whole thing too. ha

Not sure the game has too much replay value but regardless I am glad with my purchase and find that it melds gameplay and the interactive visual story the best of any game I have experienced to date.
