The 12 Best Video Game Openings Of All Time

Complex - I have a soft spot for the opening to the original Mass Effect, just because I felt the text introduction was well written and matched brilliantly to the score.

The Uncharted 2 opening was spectacular.

CommonSense4691d ago

it was okay....although the second time you have to do it all over again in chapter 15 was pretty annoying.

personally, i think the person that made this list just doesn't go back far enough. Halo: CE had a great opening. How about the opening for goldeneye? getting the info, then running for your life and jumping off the dam.

i'll tell you a game with a great opening...Resident Evil. or Amnesia. there are so many. just seems like the list is limited to the last generation or so.

Another good example is the way he mentioned Half Life 2...yeah Half Life 2 is one of the best games of all time (if not the best), but Half Life 1 had an even more memorable opening. I will give you God of War 3 though...that opening was great...in fact, it's the best part of the whole game.

i was wondering does the opening race of forza 3 count cause that was pretty Awesome opening imo what better way to open a racing game then a race and zelda game generally tend to have great openings

rabidpancakeburglar4691d ago

Pretty damn good list but I wouldn't have put FFIV ahead of most of those openings.

l2dusk4691d ago

Blasphemy! Terra's Theme alone beat all the other intros :p

Pozzle4691d ago (Edited 4691d ago )

Especially considering how amazing many of the later FF openings were.

Say what you want about FFVIII and FFX, but they had two of the most epic games openings ever, imo.

Cheeseknight284691d ago

God of War III might should've been higher seeing how you could argue that the beginning of the game was the game's best. Fighting Poseidon was just amazingly epic. I'd put it at #3, if I made no other revisions to this list.

HeavenlySnipes4691d ago

has the most epic usage of the start button ever.

beastgamer4691d ago

oh what a nice town, less press start.
HOLY SH*T
people are jumping, shit is flying, bright white lights wtf!

haha that was an amazing start

nnotdead4691d ago

haha forgot about that. loving 2 by the way.

DeFySMOK34691d ago (Edited 4691d ago )

I forgot all about the MGS4 opening. "War has changed."

thor4691d ago

The slogan from fallout is pointing out that war is basically all the same, just a petty dispute leading to a needless great loss of life.

In MGS4 war has become the largest economy, propping up everything else. It's no longer about nations but PMCs. However later in the game you find that it's really no different and was just part of the petty dispute between Zero and Big Boss.

Bolts4691d ago

War has changed sounds like a Fallout rip off.

caseh4691d ago

Correct me if im wrong, but MGS4 was released before Fallout. :)

Bolts4691d ago

Released before Fallout 3? Yes. Released before Fallout, no.

"War never change" is the catch phrase of every Fallout intro.

Interesting article, it doesn’t surprise me because some people are better all a-rounders than others. Regardless of fame or how good they are in their specialty.

This is why I feel like the live action stuff in Alan Wake 2 especially is pretty bad. It also looks really cheap and amateurish.

Kojima and death stranding 1 2 will disagree
