E3 2011: Hands On: End of Nations – The Game the RTS Genre Needs So Badly - RipTen

RipTen: For those RTS fans out there, it’s a basically well accepted fact that the genre has become inadvertently stale.

Build a base, get money, attack enemies, rinse and repeat.

Whilst it’s a tried and true formula, it’s become way too stale in what has become a one trick pony of a game genre. Cue End of Nations, an ambitious and fresh MMORTS by Petroglyph Games.

RTS games are getting stale.

I can't wait for StarHawk. I know it isn't a full RTS but it certainly is trying to mix the element of having RTS.

You know what were good hybrid games (RTS + Action)? The Battlestations games. They had a great combination of strategy while being able to take control of the individual units. Too bad Eidos is no more and the series is probably dead.

I might get it, right now it not looking that interesting to me, but i;ll get it if the reviews are good.

please, that was starcraft 2, it came out about a year ago and myself and about 6 of my freinds still play it 3-5 times a week, a we are not even good at it. There are people making a million a year playing it.

It is deeply strategic, you need to be quick in both mind and body to even stand a chance. The mods are outstanding and very, very easy to access.

This game they are talking about is worse than most mods in starcraft 2's last week of user uploads.

it looks like a 6 year old command and conquer mod;

There aren't even that many RTS games outside of Blizzard that are even like that anymore that I know of.
Sins of a Solar Empire, Dawn of War II, Company of Heroes, DOTA styled ones
Anno 1404 combined elements of RTS with other genres
It's been evolving away from the traditional formula
Starcraft is still my favorite though.

You could add in the Total War series as well. They are RTS and turn based strategy combined. Oh, and World in Conflict. That game was almost a new genre: RTT (real time tactics).

End of Nations Website Redirects to Trion

The website for Trion’s troubled MOBA End of Nations now redirects to the Trion Worlds website. It isn’t yet known exactly when this redirect took place but MMOGames was on the End of Nations website just three days ago. At that time it still discussed the game being in Alpha after having been remade into a MOBA from the real time strategy (MMORTS) it had originally planned to be.
