Sega: “Wii U Release For Spring/Summer”

Sega may have accidently leaked the release date for the Wii U, stating that it would be out sometime during the Spring/Summer of 2012. When asked about whether Sonic Generations would be hitting the Wii U when it does come out in 2012, SEGA’s Alan Pritchard had this to say:

“Generations releases this November, and the Wii U is coming out next spring/summer.” saying “The timing just doesn’t work”.

Whilst this is a far cry from it being confirmed, it does fit in with the various rumours we were hearing prior to the launch

Leak the official specs already

Joule5116d ago

"Spring/Summer" of next year probably, but probably not. Most likely next Holiday season.

LoaMcLoa5116d ago

Next holiday? Sure hope not.

We have like five Wii games left to be released!

LOGICWINS5116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

Releasing Wii 2 nxt holiday would be retarded. Who the hell would buy a Wii U to play hardcore games that are coming out THIS year?

Arkham City comes out THIS year. Assassin's Creed Revalations comes out this year. Does Nintendo ACTUALLY expect people to buy Wii U ports of ONE YEAR old games?

thehitman5116d ago

@logic they probably half do they expect the wii crowd to upgrade and those who didnt have 360/PS3 to buy into those titles but either way I think its something they can say that they have games at launch and that from then on will have the same games as the competition. Whether they sell or lot im 100% Nintendo wont be worried about out the gate. With that said they still have not released how a game will look on the console and a 100% confirmation of the entire specs but it seems like we may have to wait for like CES.

stuntman_mike5116d ago

I reckon the official specs will be announced at TGS.

Falaut5116d ago

I thought it was already stated somewhere it was June 2012?

TreMillz5116d ago

it has to. You expect people to buy arkham city AC:R, MW3, BF3 a year after they release? People will barely buy it months after it releases let alone a year. WiiU is already having low 3rd party support. Releasing it in Fall would be terrible.

jukins5116d ago

i think nintendo will somehow repeat its wii type 3rd party support on wii u. besides just dance and maybe call of duty only games that do well are nintendo games. its mainly mario with his 10+ games per console cycle but still i just dont see too many core 360 ps3 owners to upgrade to something thats released 5 years later and so far stated to be only on par with said systems. At launch wii u will probably sell out like all consoles but if the 360 ps3 keep going how they are and the vita gets a foothold, nintendo could be in trouble.

OmegaSlayer5116d ago

I bet Microsoft will announce 360 successor, and it will be a bease, before WiiU is released and that will make the WiiU purchase useless.

Falaut5116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

that's what I'm thinking. When/if Sony and MS drop their hardware, they are going to curb stomp this thing.

metsgaming5116d ago (Edited 5116d ago )

wiiu is doing graphics that the 360 and ps3 did during the current gen. That alone is a reason to not buy that "next gen" console.

maniacmayhem5116d ago

You really dont know that. Or do you know the specs?
Look at the graphics of the first games released for ps3 and 360 now compare them to the current games. You honestly think nintendo would release a hd machine with current gen graphics and no room for improvement?

Baka-akaB5116d ago

That's exactly what's happening here .

Since when does someone release a bigger machine and got nothing to advertise its raw power ? Even with fake stuff and cgi you do show something ... not a video of current gen stuff to be released .

It's actually obvious that wii u's angle is the controller and all of its possibilities , not some magically hidden raw power

TenkoTAiLS5116d ago

Both Nintendo and the dev's said all footage at this point is prototype and that the machine is still in development, hence no specs and the cageyness when people ask about it. They have been told not to say anything.
If the specs were worse they would gain nothing by hiding it, they will have to showcase the machine before launch and everyone would find out eventually. Its been 6 years since the others launched, if it isn't better graphically then there is something terribly wrong.

From a simple Q&A where they said it was capable of matching what is currently available somehow people have decided that means it isn't capable of anything more, just because something can match something else doesn't mean it cant also surpass it.

Ever think there is a possibility that they are being quiet about it till closer to launch next year so that Microsoft and Sony don't change their current "we will launch new consoles in a couple years" if they see how much better it is? So it gives them a head start over their rivals?

They haven't given out solid stats or shown anything outside prototype demos and early 3rd party gameplay footage, without facts people can make up anything they want or read into the press reports in negative or positive sounding ways. Truth is we won't know diddly squat until Nintendo themselves show us later on just what is gunna be in the box and show us actual release-candidate footage.

Kos-Mos5116d ago

Nonetheless Wii was announced at the same time as 360, still the Wii skullf**** the box.

nevin15116d ago

if its true, Nintendo is reallybeing agressive of releasing hardware early. 3DS was released this spring.

XBLA Classic 'A World of Keflings' Is Coming to Steam, and There's a Demo

"Back in the innocent days of 2010, A World of Keflings was a fairly popular successor to A Kingdom for Keflings. I even wrote about it a few times in 2012! But the world of humans moved on, and NinjaBee's city-building/adventure game was last seen on the ill-fated Wii U in 2014. Fast-forward to the dark year of 2025, and not only is A World of Keflings coming to Steam, but there's already a playable demo! Perhaps the cheerful, no pressure gameplay that the Keflings bring is just what we need nowadays," says Co-Optimus.
