Gamer's Corner: Dust 514, Risky Business Model or Pioneering New Shooter?

Gamer's Corner writes; "Let's be honest, most people that play COD look at the leaderboard and see themselves at postion 345,687, if they play hard for a week they may climb to 298,736 - pointless really isn't it? Dust 514 aims to change that and give you a real reason to fight for a planet's sovereignty. Winning a ground battle will really mean something longterm in the EVE galaxy."

I am defintely looking forward to this game.
Hopefully it'll have a strong community on the PS3.

hope so to, though I also hope it get's enough players..kz2 was an amazing game but only a handfull still play it online, i don't want that to happen to dust.

PS3 users need to support this if they want to see more of this kind of stuff. i'm going to do my part and support it on both ends. EVE and Dust.

i don't even play EVE, but i'm going to get acquainted with it after I finish up 2 other games.

Me too, the concept is really intriguing and very innovative, I never played a game like this one before.

It was really a surprise at E3 for me, and I am happy that Sony shows interest for this kind of games, I was waiting for something similiar.

So, definatly I can't wait to see more of Dust 514!

Love the game concept. I am doubtful it will only exist on the PS3 though. Its very likely to get a PC counterpart at some point later. I am happy to see it come to the PS3 though on a free to play model Guild Wars type model.

there's always risk when doing something new in this industry. and damned us all.. we keep getting question marks in the title of articles. SMH.

Is that the actual missions/tasks given to you would most definitely be the powerful players of EVE Online. And trust me, if they really want things done, they would make sure incentives are handsomely given. Unfortunately, the majority of gamers are unaware to the potential this game would bring.

Secondly, by linking up with the most persistent game ever created, the people you're working for could be annihilated or betray you leaving you jobless forcing you to go rogue or change factions. This is far from the everyday based shooter where only your rank increases.

On the other hand, it would be a massive ego-boost for EVE players knowing they've got "console" players in the palm of their hands.

-End statement

I'm very interested, but doing anything interesting and new with an FPS is risky. People apparently like to buy the same game every year. Innovation is bad and change is something to be feared, if you go by sales. The answer to the title's question is both.

DrFUD4700d ago

Good one.
So you've noticed how either reviews mark down a game because it doesn't feel like COD or some other game they have in mind.
But then reviews mark down that game when it tries to change to become more like what they are used to

Pintheshadows4700d ago

I definately have. KZ being a good case. I'm just sick of f*cking "journalists".
