Why the Real Winner at E3 is PC Gaming

NAGF writes: "Muted. Boring. Stale. That’s our impressions of E3 so far, from Nintendo’s atrocious spin as a mass innovator with Wii U, to Microsoft’s appalling Kinect line-up. Hiding behind Halo didn’t really do much for us – where was the innovation this year?

"One thing from the Kinect catastrophe did make us sit up and take notice, though. Minecraft making an appearance is a real coup for developer Markus Persson, who started it as a personal project in May 2009. Minecraft’s cult status amongst PC gamers is set to go global – does Microsoft’s backing prove that console innovation is dead and that people need to look toward the PC market for fresh ideas?"

Because of one game? Come on.

DatNJDom812714d ago

Bitter PC fanboy journalist is bitter.

jony_dols2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Handheld gaming won E3.

The Vita, 3DS & the Wii U's new controller, all stole the show.

jony_dols2714d ago

Yeah because Bioshock & Uncharted on the Vita & Resident Evil on the 3DS are kiddy games.... Sarc/

The only kids, are whiny babies such as yourself.

fluffydelusions2714d ago

It's not even exclusive to PC either. Sure it will better on PC but that doesn't take away from the fact.

JsonHenry2714d ago

The PC always shines at E3 near the end of the current generation of consoles lifespan. Come back two years from now when the new consoles and the new games are announced for them and it will be like "PC? What's a PC?"

And that statement is coming from a diehard PC fan.

TheGameFoxJTV2714d ago

When has it EVER been like that. lol

Thatguy-3102714d ago

PC gamers really need to stop pretending that it's back to it's glory days -_- though the hardware is very strong no one really cares, hence it's all about consoles and especially handhelds right now and E3 just like any other year have showed it. NO ONE CARES ABOUT PC EXCEPT BITTER FANBOYS THAT HATE THE FACT THAT CONSOLES HAVE TAKEN OVER

JsonHenry2714d ago

Except they haven't taken over.. there are more people on STEAM at any one time than there are those logged into PSN/LIVE.

Also- PC gamers have things like QuakeCon and Blizzcon to name a few. They don't need E3 since it is literally a year round, around the world, gaming fair for PC gamers.

BeastlyRig2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

Actually 95% of games at E3 are gonna be on pc to!
SWTOR not on console though.. Every platform has there own games.

Sure consoles make good money but don't sell that well imo.

Uncharted will sell like 3 - 6 million copies I am sure!

But 50 million ps3s & xbox's are in peoples homes!

To be honest this article doesn't make the case for PC gaming. When people talk about E3 and who wins at E3 the PC isn't included in the list of 3 competitors.

The title here is more wishful thinking then anything else.

Fishy Fingers2714d ago

If your a PC gamer, then your a PC gamer, there is no arguement to be had over platform, consoles on the other hand, you do, thats why you see the "who won what" compitition with the three, because it drives attention.

AMD vs Intel vs Nvidia for E3 'victory', wouldnt work as well as MS/Sony/Nin.

"does Microsoft’s backing prove that console innovation is dead and that people need to look toward the PC market for fresh ideas?"

Little Big Planet 2 would like a word with you. There's more creativity in that game, and the community than almost anything I have seen in years.

Minecraft is amazing, and one of the best games I have played in many many years, but there's two reasons why the game is a success... 1. It's massive fun. 2. It is a rare fresh idea in the stagnant world of PC gaming

Ducky2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

"2. It is a rare fresh idea in the stagnant world of PC gaming."

O.o
I wouldn't say PC gaming is any more stagnant than consoles. Both sides are pretty stale.

Most creativity is coming from indie devs, with only a few bigger developpers actually taking chances.

I've found more 'fresh' ideas in PC games namely due to mods. Mods such as 'the cube' for Fallout3 or 'DearEsther' for the source engine are some of the best experiences I've had.
Having the community create new content leads to great concepts and ideas. This is why I think LPB is so great as well.

2. It is a rare fresh idea in the stagnant world of PC gaming

World of goo and plants vs zombies would like to have a word with you

Kahvipannu2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

"2. It is a rare fresh idea in the stagnant world of PC gaming "

Look beyond the big publishers, and you will realize that statement sounds really stupid.

When you talk about innovation and creativity, PC has it all, it's called "modding". I'm assuming you really don't know what that is, since if you would, you would not say something as ridiculous as that.

LBP2, ModNation and... if there is other titles like those on consoles, are not even close what PC communitys have created for years.

/end statement

Jdoki2714d ago

You're entitled to your opinion, but even with modding I'm not convinced the world of PC gaming is any less stagnant than consoles.

Sure indie gaming is enjoying it's best period for years, and modding adds to many existing games - but either I've become jaded or people are more easily pleased these days.

Kahvipannu2714d ago

Then I would have to say you just haven't seen enough of the modding community at PC-front, since if LBP2 has more community and creativity than you have seen in years, I could almost say that as a fact.

You do realize the modding at consoles is still at level of "level editor". You still have this very restricted program, and you go by the rules that the developers and the game gives you. You can use your creativity, but to most this is just a cage, and you have to play in that cage, there isn't any real freedom.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that "modding" is coming to consoles, as baby steps it is, but it will hopefully improve, but to compare it to PC-modding. Come on...

"Sure indie gaming is enjoying it's best period for years, and modding adds to many existing games - but either I've become jaded or people are more easily pleased these days. "

Agreed on indie and modding, but a statements end amazes me when the games you praise are LBP2, ModNationRacers, and Minecraft...

chak_2714d ago

PC always win, people just start to realize it with games such as BF3

You get what you pay for eh

TheJackasaurus2714d ago (Edited 2714d ago )

No you get crap ports and even miss out on some of the best games this gen.

starchild2714d ago

Hell no. Your comment is pure delusion.

More accurate would be: the PC gets the best looking and best performing versions of multiplatform games, AND has its own great exclusives as well.

Netic2714d ago

Well all I can say the best games this gen (what you said) didn't last longer than Starcraft 2, team Fortress2, CSS,League of legends, Stalker: Call of prypyat and the only console games that I still play on PC cause they are good and long are those : BFBC2, Fallout series,Mass effect but thats cause they were mostly EX-PC developpers...

The only games not worth missing on consoles are: MGS series, Uncharted

the rest is simply not revolutionnary or the gameplay dosnt last long enough

_LarZen_2714d ago

Is there any exclusive PC games on E3 that has made any waves? ANY?

fluffydelusions2714d ago

Another TOR trailer was shown but that is about it afaik.
