i hear somewhere that back during WW2 IBM was supplying the nazis with machines they were using to tally up the jews
that was just a random thought i dunno where i heard that

ANYWAYS ON TOPIC
they said the chip is going to be based of the same chip used to power watson
im just going to assume that's good since they are still vague on things but that sound interesting so far

Pandamobile2687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

...what

EYEamNUMBER12687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

i don't really remember what the actual things were called so i just called em machines they were VERY early computers but more like type writers
i can't really edit that anymore so its stuck up there

qface642687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

you probably saw the corporation that is where i first heard of that also the fanta thing

meetajhu2687d ago

Its good but no where close to a Core2duo desktop cpu.

fatstarr2687d ago

o.o core2duos are goood but cpus have evolved greatly since then. why would they develop a cpu thats under a core2duo ...

iforgotmylogin2687d ago

wow I busted out with laughter after reading the first paragraph

just cause it was so random

EYEamNUMBER1,
IBM's German division, Dehomag, sold IBM's punch card machines to the Nazi party just as any other business would sell their products to a customer. But the Nazi party eventually took control of Dehomag for more nefarious uses.

As for the article, Power7 CPU's are 8 core chips with 4 simultaneous threads and 4 MB of eDRAM per core. Reduce a couple of cores and some clock rate to keep the thermals in check and you have one hell of a powerful CPU for a home console.

jacksonmichael2687d ago

That is the most awesome thing I've ever heard.

That is pretty cool too (I think...?)

Otheros002687d ago

I bet its a power7. I wonder how much eDram "WiiU" has. Nintendo would only withhold spec of their system if it's a lot weaker than their cmpetition. So, why didn't they release any specs? I bet it's because it is weaker than Microsoft's and Sony's next console.

Muletroid2687d ago

you mean like how sony withheld NGP's specs even after it was shown?

the WiiU hans't even actually been shown yet only the controller
if you look it up all of the console guys withhold specs even after their console is shown

TheViper2687d ago

Otheros, Nintendo withheld specs because to them the experience is what matters.

As for eDRAM, it's 4 MB per core. 4 cores is the likely minimum (since Power7 comes in 4, 6 and 8 core variants) which would give it 16 MB's of eDRAM.

For reference, the X360 has just a little of 1 MB.

DJMarty2687d ago

@TheViper - PS3's Cell's PPE has 32k L1 cache+512k L2 Cache and each of the 7 working SPE has 256k local store(not Cache, fast sram)

360 Has 1mb shared equally acrossed 3 Cores.

macky3012687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

There is rarely a system that was released in the last 20 or more years,.. that is weaker then xbox360 ,.. maybe original xbox,..

360 is weak, because it has no games,.. and handful of studios,..

@pepsilover_2007 down (I think it was a misunderstanding),.. Nitty is actually strong,.. they have incredibly great games,..

pepsilover_20072687d ago

yea but you got to remember that nintendo still has another E3 next year, i think they just wanted to get the info out so they could attract more developers, like sony did with the NGP when they revealed it they wanted to show it off as soon as possible to get intrest from developers and at E3 they had around 100 developers, so they are probally waiting till next year to blow us a way

pepsilover_20072687d ago

lol it was, but they are trying to get third partys so that point still stand though, and im looking forward to see what nintendo is gonna do with the system very much so :)

Theyellowflash302687d ago

Yeah we didn't get any spec details for the NGP either. Not only that but how could nintendo possibly know the specs for Microsoft's and Sony's next console, with the intent on holding it back because it wasn't as powerful? That is just a fail comment dude. What does Nintendo have spy's stealing MS and Sony Spec shits and R&D info. LOL GTFO

like reggi say its just a box,but most likely will be punching big!Nintendo didn't focus on specs because for them the game-controller interaction is more interesting, than showing raw power of the box.I guess wend they let the true specs come to light its going to be a massive improvement to this generation. But Nintendo will always stick with what made the brand : Gameplay invention and enjoyable games!

prdn232687d ago (Edited 2687d ago )

In gaming industry, it's the experience that sells. Only small demographics have interest in specs. Ninty's after the mass market, not geeks or some technophile.
