Square Enix: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

E3 2011 is at hand. And for more than 20 years FHTI have been playing games created by Square Enix. Throughout the years FHTI have witnessed some of the most epic stories ever. And it seem that as time rolls on, the luster that has made Square Enix shine has steadily dulled. FHTI trust that most fans of any of the franchises from S.E, feel the same way. The past few years of what can only be described as a train wreck.

"But the truth is that if things don’t change soon, it may be the death of Japanese RPG’s and Square Enix. "

hahahahahaha.

Square has at least 5 jrpgs in development ( rocket slime 3, kingdom hearts 3ds, dq X, ff type zero, 13-2, versus) at the very least, theres always more.

And every system but the ps3 has had more jrpgs than its predicessor, ds, psp, wii, 360. And theres about 25 jrpgs in development, around 25+ already right now. Death. Yeah right

Over reaction much and just a complaining bitch that dragon quest is on portables and the next main game is on the wii

Really big difference between making and selling.

For instance, if Square keeps making games like FFXIII, they wont be selling games like FFXIII. When that happens they stop making a little thing called MONEY which business tend to like.

In fact, if you've been paying attention to Sqaure, you'll find that money is something they haven't been making for a while. That they've been losing it because of the games they make.

VampiricDragon4700d ago (Edited 4700d ago )

Maybe you should pay attention and research

They had there highest profits as a company ever only 3 years ago.

2010 is really there first bad year.

And the games I mentioned at least in development will correct that. DQ X will sell at least 10 million copies

Say what you will about 13. But it sold well, and the reviews were for the most part 85 average.

The original FF XIII for the PS3 was supposed to be a great game.

The gimped version however wasn't. That should not be allowed to happen once again!

Even though SE messed up & hit an all time low when they made a deal with Microsoft (look at what happened to Nokia too)I still want them to learn from their lesson and get it right this time around.

Enix is an awesome company and I don't want it to go down. SE like most big Japanese publishers like Capcom, Namco-Bandai deserves a second chance and have a stronger presence in the west.

HeavenlySnipes4700d ago

was terrible. They took everything good about 12 and dashed it out the window.

Open world - gone
Lots of side missions - gone
Esper/summon as creatures you must find to obtain - gone
Towns - gone
*Gambit system - gone

Many people dissed the gambit system saying that it could be used to make the AI fight battles for you. That's a lie. There simply aren't enough slots and gambits to choose from for the AI to know what to do in every situation. Its waaaay better than the paradigm thing though. There were so many instances where Vanille and Hope would heal themselves and the other party member before me and cause me to die. They couldn't hold their own and the paradigm thing forced the player to have to switch classes just for one attack or ability.

Do we know if Final Fantasy Versus XIII will be at E3?

They already ruled out Kingdom Hearts 3D and Type 0 but I have heard nothing about Versus.

I wonder what will happen to Dragon Quest X? They usually pick the most popular console for the DQ game. VIII was on the PS2. IX was on the DS and X was meant to be on the Wii but the Wii is at the end of its life now so I wonder what has happened to it.

VampiricDragon4700d ago (Edited 4700d ago )

It wasnt ruled out.

Square always has unannounced surprises.

All the games you mentioned have been confirmed for localization just because of what they are. All FF's get localized.

Its been confirmed that dq X for the wii is almost done and will be revealed before the end of the year. Its also been confirmed to be in the dq 8 style

God doesnt anyone research before they post

@ lucreto

so? The wii has the largest install base of any console. And will be for some time. People take holidays to buy DQ, people buy systems to buy dq, dont underestimate it. It plays by different rules

Lucreto4700d ago (Edited 4700d ago )

I do research but I must have missed it or did an improper search as I got nothing.

They are cutting it a little tight the Nintendo's new console being released in 2012. They usually build up a big release for months beforehand but announcing it say at their event after TGS won't give them enough time as most people will be looking at project cafe by then.

iWishTifaWasReal4700d ago

FFversusXIII should be an awesome game or else ill never gonna buy another SE game.

i disagree with people who hate ffxiii.
ffxiii was an okay game, i had fun playing it. but its not my favorite its actually my least fav ff game of all time.
anyways, ffxiii had flaws like any other game.
but it was still fun til the end of the game. (my only complain is the characters. lightning, sazh, serah were the only decent characters, rest them are meehhh)

i hope they make improvement in FFXIII-2 like puting TOWNS and MORE NPCs to interact with. BIG MISTAKES BY SE.

Yuji Naka guilty of insider trading breaks silence to accuse Square Enix producer of lies

Yuji Naka was fined $1.2 million and given a suspended jail sentence for the crime.

I find his comments around how Balan turned out to be very insightful as to why the game is trash. He basically apologises for its existence

solideagle6d ago

can you please give some of us who don't know anything about this, a summary of what happened?

Chocoburger6d ago

Balan was knowingly rushed out by S-E, it had an extremely short dev cycle and was fairly low budget.
Naka was the game's director until near the end when he was fired or perhaps he quit, I forgot.

carrotcakeag6d ago

@Chocoburger Yeah they did fire and replace him which caused him to unload a bunch of rants about the company. The project only existed because of Naka in the first place, he convinced Square to give him one shot at making a platformer. They gave him an opportunity but pulled the rug out before he was done for reasons not explained.

jznrpg10d ago

Hopefully they don’t. From this it doesn’t sound like that is the case and development is just taking too long.
