Head of worldwide studios at Sony Computer Entertainment, Shuhei Yoshida stands behind the thus far codenamed NGP as a revolutionary product, and has in a recent interview detailed why the NGP will be more successful than the PSP.
It's funny that Yoshida pretty much details that the PSP was crap.
lol I noticed that too. And honestly he is right.
I don't know about that. I think it has it's advantages, but if you're looking to pick up a games console, it's probably not one of them. I used mine primarily for post-production firmware modification so that I could run emulators of old games on the go, or watch movies, surf the net, and play music. There was no real reason for someone to purchase a title if they did modify the firmware, but I purchased mine before the DSi existed. In today's market, I don't see it competing well with the NDS.
its as if they never had faith in the platform to begin with. Considering the amount of marketing and support...I guess he is right. I still like the psp/go however. no matter what the shirts at sony say.
The PSP was not crap. It was amazing IMO. The problem was the games. Sony concentrated WAY TOO MUCH on brining full console games to the handheld. Only hardcore/core gamers want this. The average consumer in most cases do not...for a portable. And unfortunately average consumers make up most of the buying demographics for portable game units. If it were the other way around, the PSP would have came out on top of the DS easily. Sony needs to have a great balance of both to satisfy both camps. If they do this, then Nintendo has a lot to worry about... especially if Sony can make the NGP price competitive with the 3DS.
I think trying to bring a console experience to a portable wouldn't be as big of a problem if they could actually pull it off, but they couldn't, not with the limited ram and lack of a right analog stick. The NGP with it's power and abundance of input methods including a second stick is IMHO a game changer. That is not to say they're forgeting about the casual consumer. Titles like Little Deviants, Sound Shapes, Hustle King, Reality Fighters, Smart As, Broken, etc, almost half the announced line up attests to that.
hopefully it gets more devloper support and less pirating
I certainly should hope it will get better dev support, as the transition from PS3 to NGP is said to be easy. The question is only if developers are going to shell out all of their titles for the handheld and the PS3. If they get into that trend, you'll have the serious market versus the more child-like in NGP vs 3DS respectively.
will it sell more? I am not sure
a little off topic but when are they gonna talk aboout their tablets? any in depth reviews anywhere?
Using mere words simply cannot express just how much I want it in my hands *right now* I own a PSPGo & this beast will sh*t all over it.. once it releases, that is. :P
I just want some good games on it and often, make use of the potential the system has and it's price tag. The PSP's downfall in my opinion was down to the lack of good games for it and the lack of developers working with new IPs on it, the PS3 porting business sounds cool but I hope that's not all that companies are going to do.
Hopefully I don't have to buy it to play the games. Not talking about piracy, I'm interested in seeing how smoothly these games will port over to the PS3. I'd love to play the next Dissidia with a dualshock.
I am loving this device. The more I hear about it the more I want it. It even plays PSP games. I want it. I NEED it. But I know I can depend on this generation to find something wrong with it no matter how minor.
Completetly agree, at first i wasnt sure. And like you said the more you hear about it the more you want one. I may have to get a NGP.
That white NGP is so sexy, think I'll go with white if its going to be available at launch.
The white one is nice. I would like to see a baby blue one, with ghost flames on it. And maybe even a unicorn sticker on the front case just for fun.
no psp wasn't bad at all the proof a lot of games we did play it in psp and complete it but we love to see it again in ps3 in HD res and play it again. like Crisis Core , Birth By Sleep , Dissidia , GOW psp titles etc. of course MGS peace walker the head of these titles
my favorite thing about the ngp is 2 analog sticks. That was the one thing that I never liked about the psp (no analog sticks) from day 1 everything else was awesome. Many games were ruined just because of a lack of 2 analog sticks.
This thing has everything....the best handheld system to be made when it's out. As long as there is software to go with it.
The PSP was a good hand-held but it had its flaws. The analog nub was terrible, the UMD was a bad idea, the load times were long. It seems that with the NGP Sony fixed all those issues with the new format and the dual analog sticks. The only thing that i am a bit worried about is battery life. But then again maybe due to the size of the device they can shove a huge battery into it and solve any issues with short battery life. BTW i have been receiving a ton of hate-mail recently from people who are scared of the NGP being a good hand-held. Just shows how immature people can be.
Sony was better off using blu-ray(minis) than UMDs , large storage so no need for more than one disc. what type of storage(disc wise)will the NGP use?
no disc format for NGP. Just memory stick inside it the game. It allow too large storage from 0 to 16 GB and mybe 32. In beging the games will be around 4GB.
memory sticks are so much better, no need to worry about them being scratched. i am so glad sony went with this idea.
Why will some worry about memory if it can offer 16GB games for portable ?? Also much better loading.
