Activision has sent over a trio of videos, one for each of the three starter pack characters: Spyro, Gill Grunt & TriggerHappy.
I know I'm going to get a lot of disagrees for saying this, but I think this game looks awesome. Spyro's new look doesn't bother me at all. The fact that there are 32 other playable characters shouldn't put people off playing this game. Playing as different characters is optional. You can play the entire game as Spyro and play bonus areas with the characters needed to unlock them. This is no different from Spyro 3 where certain challenges required certain characters (Sgt Byrd, Bently, Agent 9, etc). There are even more collectibles in this game than there are in the first 5 games. I'll list them: - Gems - Large gems (like in Crash Bandicoot) - Coins - Rings - Keys - Crystals - Scrolls The levels have variety! They're colorful! They have character! These things have been missing from Spyro for so long. This game is going to be good regardless of whether or not people think it should be labeled as a Spyro game. Who knows, maybe if the game is successful it may encourage Activision to take more risks, rather than play it safe with CoD. Just my 2c.
The game looks alright, but that is DEFINITELY not Spyro, nor is this a Spyro game. The only way it would be Spyro is if Insomniac was still making this. But then I suppose I can be called hypocritical considering my defence of the new Dante in DmC (ninja Theory are ace developers, and I like to see how they handle DmC). We really can't make any judgemental calls until we see reviews and play the game for ourselves. Im definitely not encouraged by the fact Activision is behind it, and the whole "buy the toy, play the game" scheme. Just money making imo.
I don't agree that only Insomniac can make Spyro games. The 2 PSP Ratchet and Clank games that weren't made by Insomniac are still considered R&C games, aren't they? I do understand your point though. Spyro looks very different from the original character. It's not the same Spyro. I've used up my bubbles, so I can't say anything more. Thanks for keeping this convo civil. @ Michael-Jackson This is Wii footage.
It looks like a cheap Super Mario Galaxy rip-off. The perspective is all wrong for an open world platformer....if they even made it ANYTHING like a traditional Sypro game, that is. But I just smell another abuse of an awesome old IP. It's so sad to see Banjo-Kazooie, Spyro, Crash, and more get kicked around like this.
Looks like a PSN/Xbox live quality game... cheap bastards.
And that my friend is all this really is. The art director for Spyro probably has an ass for his face. which is why Spyro's face is looking like ass. Although I can see the fun/playabilitY. I can't enjoy a game that fucks up the main characters look that badly.
spyro 1,2 and 3 were good games... but this game isn't spyro...
I like what the game offers, but thats definitely not geared to a standard gamer. This a toys+game proposition, and using Spyro was a good choice. He's a character with a history, but who has basically been sidelined for a while. Figure that Activision could have launched this without a "name" character, or added in Spyro as one of the characters, and it makes sense to have gone with the latter.
sure activision ruin it, but it look like it could be enjoyable. sure people ruin the looks of spyro and dante(Dmc) but unless you play it you wont know if it good or not. please dont judge a book by a it cover :)
I bet your Insomniac games are looking at this and face palming like "what the fuck did they do to it?"
