the notion of a "return" implies it has been gone for some time. Not only that but the reference of it being "huge" should lead one to think of not only the popularity but perhaps the scale.

A fighting game with "huge" characters could mean Primal Rage (dinosaurs) or that big robot fighter capcom had a few years back.

Popularity wise I dont think KI was as popular as mortal kombat or street fighter. It could be KI but I am leaning towards the play on words. "Huge" as in scale of the game/characters.

samurai showdown would fit into this and it certainly was hugely popular in its time.

The term would have to reflect a game that has spanned at least 2 other titles. So all the games that were singular in their presence could be eliminated from the guessing game.

When I think of huge fighting franchises I think of king of fighters, street fighter series, mortal kombat, tekken, virtua fighter. The ones that are still played and get updates semi regularly.

This one.....eludes me. Like I said above. It could be a play on words.

Got to agree with you ... if we are thinking 90s ... they only HUGE fighting game series were Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter ... both of them are covered. Tekken, Soul Calibur, Virtua Fighter came later on and haven't stopped making game so it can't be those making a "comeback".

SNK has amazing fighting game series but they never EVERY took off in America so it can't be them.

So thinking hype wise ... it has to be Killer Instinct. It's the only other fighter that came close in popularity even though it honestly sucked competitively.

Soul Calibur V has already been confirmed, the article says "the return of a huge fighting game" but they didn't say if it was an exclusive or Mulitplat.

Lets narrow this baby down. We know that Tekken, MK, SF, MVC are all still running fine today.

Virtua Fighter, DOA hasn't seen a new title since the launch of PS3 and 360. so there's a small chance it could be either.

however, when one says "return" it means it's been gone for a long time. The only games that come to mind would be

Samurai Showdown

Why do you guess the game is one that is already confirmed to be in the works. Like Street Fighter or Tekken, there are 2 of them coming. There was just a new Mortal Kombat. DoA is already in the works, so it's not that. Virtua Fighter? Perhaps, but it has already seen releases this gen, so can't be that. Smash Bros has already been out this gen, can't be that.
