VGW: Nintendo has gone through great lengths to make 3D the biggest selling point of their next generation handheld, the 3DS. With Avatar reviving the 3D trend, Sony quickly offering televisions that can display 3D, and Nintendo bringing the experience to handheld gaming, it has become more popular than ever. No one can deny that the effect itself is impressive. The illusionary depth greatly adds to the immersion, but as a result of that, it’s easy to ignore as it becomes your norm while playing 3DS games. While it’s still a great selling point, 3D alone won’t keep players interested long-term. Instead, the future and longevity of the system can likely be found within the lesser popularized feature, augmented reality, via the use of the portable AR cards.
