An Incredible Sequel List Shows 3 is the Magic Number

TGR notice a remarkable trend starting to form: There’s an odd set of circumstances happening over the next few months. Not one, not two, but TEN game series are seeing the 3rd iteration of their franchises released in the coming months. But why is this such an interesting discovery? Well because unlike many sequels, every single one of these games is getting gamers a bit hot under the collar.

thats pretty remarkable. we have max payne 3 too but i bet that will be crap.

Kris2k05136d ago

Wow. Weird. Quite fancy most of them too. Could be an expensive few months...

Gazman5136d ago

even more expensive if you like your collectors editions.

sammykiernan5136d ago

I can't see much beating Uncharted 3 this year to be honest, I'm not fussed about more FPS games.

PoisonedMonkey5136d ago

Uncharted is looking very tasty indeed. And you're right, it'll take something special to make another FPS stand out...

Mind you, Battlefield 3 is looking amazing.

Max_Dissatisfaction5136d ago

Where art though original IP? Too many 3's this year. Maybe it is time for next gen, can't imagine getting excited about Gears 4, Resistance 4, Uncharted 4, Mass Effect 4 and MW4 again in 2 years.
Killzone 4 would be an exception though because we've only had 2 Killzone games on the PS3...unless MILKY...I mean SONY decides to port Killzone Liberation.

BigDan805136d ago

well you say that, but who would have thought some many "3" games would be as interesting as they are?

rabidpancakeburglar5136d ago

I hadn't even realised how many 3rd games were coming out. I want most of them

Battlefield 3 Cut Missions From Campaign Detailed by Former DICE Dev

Battlefield 3's former Lead Designer has revealed that there were two cut missions from the main campaign

XiNatsuDragnel156d ago

I wish someone can get those EA game leaks to see all the cut content ngl

anast156d ago

Get rid of campaigns, move the game to mobile, and try to compete with warzone. They would save time and money.

Bf4 was fun hope the new bf is just as good.

Bro missing companions: Legion, Grunt, Samara/Morinth, Javik, EDI

anast186d ago

Legion, Zaeed, and Jack are my favorites.

RiseNShine186d ago

To think that Bioware at some point was capable of doing games like this, you see those characters and remember them like good old friends, and now check ME Andromeda, Anthem, Veilguard etc and wonder what the hell happened.

anast186d ago

They lost too much talent.

IAMRealHooman186d ago

some in andromeda are decent, I agree with peebee and Vetra being good companions. Except Liam he's trash tier

anast185d ago

Liam lol I can't stand that dude.

Sony needs to remake the trilogy on ps5

CrimsonWing69214d ago

I’d rather them do a new game in the world of Resistance.

Cacabunga214d ago (Edited 214d ago )

I honestly liked the first one most..
killzone 2 and 3 outshined Resistance 2 and 3 for me in every aspect.

Eonjay214d ago

I absolutely adored Resistance 3 but they do not NEED to remake this game. They should do something that they enjoy and if it is Resistance then so be it.

Mr_cheese214d ago

Loved resistance 3, played the whole thing on co op with the move controller and gun, was very different!

Resistance 2 online was the best

gamerz214d ago

Me too, but also on a 3D tv! R3 was one of the few games that got plastic rifle panning motion right.

isarai214d ago

Such a criminally underrated series, id love a remaster collection of the trilogy.

preciousdeath214d ago

Yes! ...and make them PSVR2 compatible.

Pedrof214d ago

Not a classic in my opinion ; a pretty mediocre PS3 shooter as far as I'm concerned, not bad, not the worst of the trilogy, but certainly not great. Killzone 2 was miles ahead of it (and of most FPSs even today as far as I'm concerned).

pwnmaster3000214d ago

Naw man.
Resistance 1 will always be GOATed for me.
I remember playing all night on multiplayer. Such a fun game.

P_Bomb214d ago

Ah yeah, R1! I cut my teeth on the one-shot Walmart map, lol! Miss that.

gamerz214d ago

Played that demo soooooo many damn times since it was the only thing to play for a while at launch. That and motorstorm.

refocusedman214d ago

killzone was amazing but resistance was great as well. althpugh theybwrre both fps, I think that served different purposes.

JEECE214d ago

Thanks for turning Insomniac into a Marvel studio.

ApocalypseShadow214d ago (Edited 214d ago )

Although I agree on original games and creativity over licensed IP, especially something like Ghost of Tsushima. But Sony's looking at that series selling less and less overall with the 3rd estimated to not even sell 2 million. Gamers who say they loved it didn't really buy it.

While Spiderman the series has sold over 50 million not counting PC. And Spider-Man 2 is over 11 million so far. If you had their business and had to make their decisions, what would you do in their shoes?

JEECE214d ago

@ApocalypseShadow

Umm, that's exactly my point lol. Insomniac made great, original IP games and people didn't buy them because they were too busy lapping up yearly CODs and Assassin's Creeds, so naturally Sony/Insomniac had to pivot to something else.

Knushwood Butt214d ago

So you are saying 1 was the worst?
I respect your opinion but strongly disagree.

I'll start with what I didn't like about 3:
- OK, Nathan Hale is gone but new player character totally forgettable. Can't even remember their name.
- Awful forced in 3D. Just look at KZ3 for 3D done well.
- Online multiplayer that paled in comparison to 1 and 2. Put hundreds of hours into the first two. Probably less than 10 hours into 3.
- Campaign was OK but I played the other two more, especially 1.

Pedrof213d ago

1 had my favorite gunplay of the trilogy (no need for COD iron sight) so I guess my worst would be 2. At least 3 wrapped up the storyline, supported the move controller and had prettier graphics. But in my book, none of the three really stood out. From that era, I prefered Singularity for example and obviously Killzone 2.

I wish they'd bring back the Resistance 2 multiplayer. God that co-op was so much fun.
