Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Dead Island all promoted themselves with trailers which stepped outside the boundaries of gameplay and cutscenes, to provide context to the world around the game. What are the benefits and potential pitfalls of this approach?
I really liked Portal 2's trailers, but some of these could get a little out of hand.
I like Halo's marketing campaigns a lot more than the actual games.
The deus ex trailers are great.
