Ever wonder why Apple fans stand in line for hours end just to buy a phone? According to the BBC's Alex RIley, it's because Apple is their religion. Neuroscience suggests he may be right.
No...It's an ideal like Radical, Extremist, Reactionarism, or Catholic.
Alex Riley does show a good point. Watch the show it is good and very interesting edit did anyone watch the documentary. The whole idea is that the part of the brain associated with religion is associated with fanboyism
its my religion, and i will die for my console of choice because it loves me back the same. /s
It's not an ideal. It's a devotion. People can be devoted to almost anything, be it a religion, a nation, a consumer product, or another person. Fanboyism is simply absurd because the object of that devotion is something that, in the greater scheme of things, isn't all that important. So you like game X and someone else likes game Y? There are people with real problems out there. If you're going to get that heated up over your preferred form of amusment, you've probably got some messed up priorities.
sony could cause a world war. SOny could kill yalls family. Sony could cause global hunger. But here on n4g, it would still be ok. The sony fanboys on this site are delusional and F*****g crazy. ps3 is this sites god, its rather funny coming to this garbage site and reading peoples comments like pirate thom. Who are so mind bent and nuts on a game system that it leaves me shaking me head in disbelief. Its mind numbing how some of you have to try to justify your mommy and daddies purchase of your game system with coming on sites like this and plegging your allegiance to a corporation and game system. totally pathetic. Gamers should suppport all gamers and systems. As compatition makes companies and systems better. Can you imagine if sony didnt have a rival like xbox? the ps3 would be $2,0000 and have nothing but shovel ware. Grow up kiddies. Its a fu****g video game system which will be replaced in 2-3 years.
I agree with every last thing you just said.
If Fanboyism is a religion...n4g would be a monastary
...and you would be one of the head monks.
Glass houses silly gamer, glass houses
A monastery at war is more like it! And 70% of the people here have drunk the kool aid!
No, I believe it's a form of idiocy.
You point out some striking parallels with religion.
religion is idiocy in its purest form
Oh, dear. Don't say that... People might get upset. Or.. maybe not? ah whatever.
Yep. I honestly think if there was an actual war between Sony and Microsoft there would be at least 2500-5000 people that would sign up for it, prob more if it was Apple vs Windows.
Sigh Gaming is taking over real life Social life things the point is that your right.
Would love to see Pirate Tom and Loner in a battle to the death cage match. The winner will get bragging rights for the biggest fanboy on N4G.
Its idiocy with a hint of irrationality with a smidge of insanity
psh hardly Fanboyism is just a way of life. Really I find it no different that what football fans do. Yes there are idiot fanboys but i dont think being a fanboy makes you an idiot anymore than being an idiot makes you a fanboy.
No... it's a disease. Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with favoring one console over another. Using a computer example, I use Windows and OS X, but I prefer Macs. Always have, always will. I only have a Windows machine for gaming, since it's too costly getting a Mac that can run the games I want. Anyways, even though I prefer Macs, I don't go out of my way to bash Windows. That's when you truly become a "fanboy". It's when you're in denial and find any excuse to down the competition.
more like a Plague.
well at least fanboyism is based on something tangible... unlike religion.
Having a console preference is all fine and good, but I leave the other guys alone. Personally, I think it's generally a waste of time to start arguments about the superior console when I could be playing games instead, which is kinda the real point of the hobby.
It might as well be, given the way people argue over seemingly stupid things.
But I wouldn't call it a religion. It's like those environmentalist that were sending death threats to the guy that reported how much energy Al Gore's house was using. Environmentalist is not a religion, but those people responded like some people do when their faith is attacked.
They both are astoundingly silly. Of course, believing in a deity seems mostly about mental illness while fanboyism is just having great pride for something real. Still silly, though.
