Rumour: Call Of Duty 4 Single Player Is "5-6 hours"

In Neogaf, the latest OXM details are in aswell as scores but the most controversial highlight of the news is that the highly anticipated Call of Duty 4 will have a campaign mode of only "5-6 hours" long.

its going to take a hell of a game to get PS3 owners away from Warhawk...and 360 owners away from Halo 3...I am so used to vehicles right now that a lack of them simply doesn't seem worth it...Haze and UT3 appears to have some pretty crazy vehicle stuff included in the multiplayer...but honestly what I have seen of CoD 4's multiplayer it appears...dare I say it...boring...

i am a ps3 fan but i have to say hsword wasnt as good as i had hoped. Not only was the game short but the gameplay started getting very repetitive the story wasnt the most captivating but the acting was pretty good. However am not lookin for great acting am lookin 4 great story great game. The game played well and jst when it was gettin annoyin and repetitive they tossed the kai scenes or the 6 axis shoot canon/arrows scenes. This helped keep the game fresh for a while. If they had made the game anylonger based on this formula it would have tanked big time

6 hours is fine for me if that is how long it takes a hardcore gamer to beat it. The last FPS that took me more than 10hrs to beat was Bioshock at 17hrs. If it's too short or the multiplayer isn't that good I'll just sell it and get half of my investment back so it's not a big deal to me, but then again I'm the type of person who just has to have all the Big titles right now.... Heavenly Sword is actually the first game I've ever replayed because it isn't really long. After all the games I've played it's hard to replay a game that I have already played from beginning to end thats really long. With HS I can replay this great game to the end and enjoy it over and over. i really liked the game and there are many parts that are so much fun, i love to replay sections at a time.

i'm replay the game from the beginning now on Hell mode for fun and to show what the ps3 is really capable of. fighting 1000s of enemies at one time is CRAZY!!!

also i can't see anyone getting through HS in 6 hours. it's not that easy. you definately can't just mash buttons and run through enemies so i don't know how anyone could get through it that quickly.

If CoD is 6 hours thats not too bad to me. i really don't have time or the attention span to play 30 hours worth game time. i had Oblivion and hated it because i knew i'd never finish the whole thing.

I would disagree with your assessment of Halo 3 but maybe you are a much better player than I - I found Heroic to relatively challenging and was no where close to beating Halo 3 in 6 hours - I suspect it is going to be more like 15-20 hours. But then I don't get to play much and kinda suck I guess.

Still - back on topic - I am mostly interested in single player games so a short single-player campaign is a non-starter.

The singleplayer may be kinda short, but it's filled with awesome moments. I'm sure it looks great and is a blast, probably has pretty good replayability too because IW may have incorporated some unlockables, or something to make you want to go back and beat it a few more times.

But yea the replayability of this game lies within it's MP. I had over 3 days logged on the Beta. It had more of my free time than Halo 3 does right now.

a DVD has one movie right with DVD quality, but it can have like 10 movies DivX quality. so heavenly sword, lair were programmed on higher levels of details that took more space. problem with both games devs focused on details and didn't pay much attention on gameplay which will be fixed next sequel.
COD4 were programmed on a certain level of details and quality to be reached, so if they used more space, it trasforms to mor levels, that lead to longer gameplay.
So, don't compare oranges and grapes.

If this would be a restriction on DVD9... they sould simple ship the game in 2 discs... multiplayer and single player... done. they do that on PC all the time.

I can also show you games that comes on 3 discs on the xbox 360... no developer will criple their game just becase it does not fit in one disc when they can ship it on multiple.

@achira - I don't know if you ever seem the graphics and the details of the characters on Mass Effect... it has one of the best looking graphics ever seen... the reason why these games are not that big is because they don't take the quick way out as of packing their game with pre-render CGI... any programmer that written any basic 3D game can tell you that Meshes hardly take any space... Go on.. look up the information about heavenly sword.. take a look at why it took so much space... most of the space is pre-render CGI and sound to support every region language... I'm not going to get into that topic.. but... COD4 is hardly a Cinematic game like Metal Gear.
I'm willing to bet that this game is not even using the full capacity of the DVD9... specially because COD never use CGI... all their cutscenes are allways using in game assets... Why would they change now?

bladestar mass effect looks not so good, everywhere the same textures. did you know you can play ultima for 50 hours, and it was on a cd! the problem was the graphics were total sh!tty, but it was a nice game. oblivion is another example, yes it is big, but everything is the same! dvd is the limiting factor, and another limiting factor are the costs of the game.

I must agree with bladestar, to a degree. I think that Resistance singleplayer was a great length (13 hrs or so) and the online is awesome. However, HS is short, although it isnt 6hrs but when you look at the game visually it simply dwarfs most if not all games on any console. The game will be longer next time around though, mostly due to the fact that they had to build an engine and get a grip with the ps3 hardware. Next time around they wont have this problem.

However, until the PS3 puts out games of longer length sonyboys cant say much. But on the other hand length isnt the only thing improved upon when it comes to format space. You see much more original landscapes and textures with more space.

The problem with that is Halo fans are 95% multiplayer fans (so single player length doesn't matter). COD fans are more into the single player with the multiplayer being the icing on the cake. I'm more a fan of single player games so I was expecting COD4 to be at least as long as COD2. I'll still rent the game but I will not purchase.

That is way too short. Most shooters nowadays run you at least 10 hours. Still, I'm holding off on judgement. If there is replayability in the single player, campaign or "scoring" like in Halo 3, it would still be worth it.

I think due to the complexity of developing next gen games developers tend to focus SO much on the production quality that at the end the actual length of the game ends up being compromised

The ONLY new next gen game that I have played recently that is surprisingly long was Bioshock taking around 18 hors to finish but any one familiar with System Shock 2 the devs previous work might know exactly why the had SO much time to make the game longer

Read comment 23 and you will know that this rumor is false!!!! The game is 10 hours according to Official Xbox Magazine, and they gave it a 10 like Halo 3!!!! Why would they give Call of Duty 4 a 10 if it is true that this game is 5 to 6 hours long? They never said anything about a short campaign in Call of Duty 4. This has nothing to do with DVD9. My god grow up people. First of all, if it were larger, it could be put on multiple disks. Single player linear campaigns work that way. You don't have to travel back and forth to the beginning areas.

1- Unless I read this wrong he said it was very short. Not very specific to length.
2- How experienced was the person playing the game. 5-6 hours for him might be longer for us.

Call of Duty games are cheap, shallow games with boring gameplay. I wouldn't have bought it if it were 50-60 hours. Probably smart of them to cut back the length so ppl don't have time to realize this is the same game as all the others with new make up to make it look present day rather than the past. Hopefully this will hurt sales enough that they will finally give up on this lame series. Go Away COD.
