Valve is keeping an interested eye on the headline-grabbing facial animation tech seen in Rockstar's L.A Noire, but has doubts whether it would work with the studio's own inimitable narrative style.
Valve is cool.
They are cool
Nice stealth edit.
Indeed they are powerfull..i mean cool...i just wish we had Episode 3 already!!!
hey, if they think they can do better then go ahead. the facial capture is flawless
That's obviously not his point.
not flawless. It lacks fine detail, which is not necessarily the fault of the technology but there is definitely room for improvement. Other studios/developers besides Quantic Dream's David Cage have said that the tech is a dead end. They're planning on making large-scale motion/facial capture hybrids where an actor can move around and perform body animations while his facial animations are tracked simultaneously.
Valve used to actually have the best facial animations of it's time at one point, back in 2004-2006. Half-Life 2 and the episodes were always praised for their facial animations. Even in their newer games, what they have is still great for today's standards.
VALVe's facial animation is pretty good looking at TF2. It's their body animations they should upgrade
", and we're keeping our eyes on that piece of tech, but it's not clear how we would integrate it." I swear thats almost verbatim to what Naughty Dog said
The mods would be amazing!
It would make mods with facial animation impossible
modders would have to use a kinect?
Doesn't work like that, bro. Unless your average modder has 32 HD camcoders lying around, the lipsyncing won't really work.
Valve should really invest in something. The Source engine is getting quite dated as of now.
love you valve, but im a console gamer for now, so i will be buying la noire over portal 2, def no offense. you are best of the best, but portal isnt my game. :( now half life ep 3 ....................
