Modern Warfare 3, the follow up to Modern Warfare 2, developed by Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer and Raven Software, has recently has had a massive blowout of information. It looks like more of the same, but why is that a bad thing?
Oh, yeah, the Guitar Heroing of the MW series begins!
This is an argument where games as Art and games as Entertainment meet head to head in an epic battle. Games as art are supposed to break new ground, it's essential for maturity and growth as a medium. Games as entertainment ride a dynamic until it's unprofitable.
Why can't we have both? As with music and cinema; each for different audiences that co-exist.
I think we will and indeed already do to some degree. If you look at the console manufactures they are each aimed at different consumer groups. Some more casual some more mainstream some more artistically inclined. There are exceptions on all sides, all venues of gaming have the ability to meet most people's needs. Also multiplatform titles do much to allow easy transitioning for people who want to try things outside their comfort zone.
"Games as art are supposed to break new ground" According to whom? You? I had no idea games as art meant "new ground."
I will admit that many great works of art are copied to make more art. Many novels written of plays, many movies written from both. Famous paintings are copied by painters in attempt to make new art. And untold many bands do well off covers of other artists work. Far be it for me to say which has more artistic value or merit. I just prefer for the sake of novelty and curiosity something new to spend my time on. More of the same with extra polish, done a bit more to perfection is fine and all but if there's something different I've never tried before that would definitely be higher on my priority list.
why you ask? CoD4 MW CoD world at war CoD MW2 CoD Black ops Cod MW3 all same game engine with nothing new added except new perks and weapons! Time for a change...some of are sick of it already!
Did you even read the article?
yes! your point is?
"Some are sick of it" Yes but the sales figures show that most aren't so why do they need to change if so many people clearly love it?
the people who dislike COD are a small minority and they aren't going to rush and change everything just because a handful of people dislike the way it currently is change will happen when either A) new consoles release and a new engine is built or B) the majority asks for it
God of War. Legend of Zelda. Many more I'm not going to list all have 'more of the same' to an extent. I'm not a COD fan, but I think one of the main problems is that it's annual now. Oh yeah them pokemon games lol. I don't wish failure for them for the fact that they have families and whatnot. But they should be smarter than this.
*yawn* Surprise me, CoD.
Activision/IW/Treyarch don't care what the haters say, us COD fans enjoy playing COD and I'm happy with the way it is, the article got it dead on. The fans are happy with playing COD, we find it fun and enjoyable, especially online. Why don't haters go do something fun, like play a computer game or something ;)
